As the nation prepares for another general election, Saint Lucians are being reminded that they have until Sunday, May 22, 2016, to get registered in order to exercise their democratic right to vote.
Special Assistant to the Chief Elections Officer, Cuthbert St. Juste, has said that this move is to ensure that the registration process continues and citizens have an opportunity to cast their ballots on June 6, 2016.
St. Juste has called on all unregistered persons who are qualified, to make the effort to visit centres in Castries, Vieux Fort, Soufriere, Deniere Riviere and Gros Islet to get registered fast.
“If they fail to do that by Sunday, they will not be able to participate in this coming election,” he stated.
St. Juste has also urged citizens to ensure that their names are on the voters list.
The Electoral Department, he said, is fully prepared as it has been preparing over the past few months. He does not believe that the Department will be faced with any major challenges.
Prime Minister Dr. Kenny Anthony had announced the election date in an address to the nation on Thursday evening. He also declared that May 27, 2016 will be nomination day.
