As the nation prepares for another general election, Saint Lucians are being reminded that they have until Sunday, May 22, 2016, to get registered in order to exercise their democratic right to vote.

Special Assistant to the Chief Elections Officer, Cuthbert St. Juste, has said that this move is to ensure that the registration process continues and citizens have an opportunity to cast their ballots on June 6, 2016.

St. Juste has called on all unregistered persons who are qualified, to make the effort to visit centres in Castries, Vieux Fort, Soufriere, Deniere Riviere and Gros Islet to get registered fast.

“If they fail to do that by Sunday, they will not be able to participate in this coming election,” he stated.

St. Juste has also urged citizens to ensure that their names are on the voters list.

The Electoral Department, he said, is fully prepared as it has been preparing over the past few months. He does not believe that the Department will be faced with any major challenges.

Prime Minister Dr. Kenny Anthony had announced the election date in an address to the nation on Thursday evening. He also declared that May 27, 2016 will be nomination day.

  3. Seriously? Does this sum up the character of the SLP leadership or what!!? "Saint Lucians are being reminded that they have until Sunday, May 22, 2016, to get registered in order to exercise their democratic right to vote ... "If they fail to do that by Sunday, they will not be able to participate in this coming election.” Right after this announcement is the weekend when the people who are not yet registered will have difficulty getting registered! sounds like a well-orchestrated plan!

  4. As usual Kenny causing confusion just to maintain power pay pensions and prestige.
The word is they rushed the election because the UWP announced Sarah Flood for Central Castries that Labour knew they would lose .
Also Kenny fraid she on the political platform so called elections quick before Sarah can start to give them licks.

  6. This reeks of pure political mischief by this copy-cat of Maduro and this SLP (Stupid Labour Party). Why must we have FIVE more YEARS of such incompetence called better days? How much crap is too much Saint Lucia?

First they try to debar the young and parents from exercising their voting rights by calling an election on an examination day. George Odium was fooled. In retrospect, he too looks like an idiot and poor judge of character.

Next, the electoral office is beating its chest pronouncing that a non-working day, a Sunday when the church-going population observe their Sabbath, as the last day of registration. How much more damn insensitive can our morons in government get?

Anything but this Stupid Labour Party, SLP. Clean up and cut out the fat cats and all the crap 17-0.

  8. This is absurd. Now people have to cancel their affairs to ensure that they can get registered in time to vote. Why are you Saint Lucians allowing your democratic rights to be treated as an emergency.
If everyone comes out and say that this is too soon then the government has no choice but to postpone. But Lucians like sheep will just rush to get ready, cancel everything else they had planned and go and vote.

  9. I really Love the SHAKE-UP, SHOCK AND AWE, that Our Supreme Leader DR. Kenny D Anthony has caused.
We have become too complacent with a small island mentality.
So our Superior Party (The SLP) has caused them to go wild and off. Lol.

And we will be back in Office for another 20 years 🙂
Because we SUPERIOR PARTY AND GREAT BUILDERS OF THIS NATION.
