The 32nd Annual Coca Cola / LIME International Tennis Federation Junior Tournament concluded at Saint Lucia’s National Tennis Centre in Beausejour, Gros Islet, over the weekend, with some exciting results for home fans.
The home team was well represented in both boys and girls 18’s and 14’s. But three names stood out for Team Saint Lucia.
Nathan Francis won the boys 14’s singles title, edging Nicholas St John in straight sets: 6-4 6-1.
Meggan William beat Trinidad and Tobago’s number one, Osenyonye Nwovokolo, in a nail biting girls finals, winning her second 14’s singles championship in the region for 2015 6-1, 7-6(4). Meggan became the first female tennis player from Saint Lucia to win at the Coke tournament.
In the girls doubles, Meggan teamed up with Barbados’ Hannah Chambers to capture the girls 14’s doubles championhip by default due to rain delays.
Nathan then teamed up with Grenada’s Christian Warner in the boys 14’s doubles to take on the Saint Lucian duo of Maxx William and Jordan Hunte. Maxx and Jordan are considered promising youngsters, but they showed that they are ready to begin fulfilling that promise by winning 1-6 7-5 10-4.
In the girls 18’s, it was an all-American affair, Kate Paulus beating Kianah Motosono 6-4, 6-1. In the boys 18’s, Justin Lee of the USA beat Guatemala’s Ryan Alexander Mueller 7-6(3), 6-2.
Maxx William and Jordan Hunte together with Rianne Joseph and Sarah Joseph will join their other Caribbean counterparts in Curaçao at the end of August to participate in the 2015 GSDF Developmental Junior Caribbean Tennis Camp.
