PRESS RELEASE – Youth Ambassador, Ms. Rhonda Amada Pierre leaves Saint Lucia on Friday 23rd October 2015 to attend the prestigious 9th Youth Forum of the UNESCO General Conference.

Ms. Pierre is a youth activist who serves as a volunteer for the St Lucia Chapter of the Caribbean Youth Environment Network (CYEN).

In addition to working on CYEN’s events and projects, Ms. Pierre has also volunteered with other youth groups in Saint Lucia on issues related to youth development, environment and sustainable development (including energy conservation) and community service.

She has also done extensive and outstanding work with the Caribbean Student Environment Alliance.  Rhonda Pierre is currently employed as a Civil Engineering Technician with the Ministry of Infrastructure, Port Services and Transport.

The 9th UNESCO Youth Forum, which takes place under the theme “Young Global Citizens for a Sustainable Planet”, will bring together young persons to share experiences about youth activities, and to discuss the challenges faced by youth when they endeavour to contribute to their societies.

The UNESCO Youth Forum is an integral part of the UNESCO General Conference, serving as one of the few regular mechanism, at the global level, which allows young people to submit their recommendations to representative of States.  As such, the recommendations coming out of the Youth Forum will form part of the agenda of the 38th session of the General Conference of UNESCO scheduled for 2nd – 18th November, 2015.

Saint Lucia will also be represented at various stages of the 38th session of the UNESCO General Conference by the Minister for Education, Human Resource Development and Labour/Minister with Responsibility for UNESCO Affairs, the Honourable Dr Robert Lewis.  Saint Lucia’s delegation will also include the Secretary General of the Saint Lucia National Commission for UNESCO, Ms. Maria Symphorien.

The Honourable Dr. Robert Lewis will deliver his National Statement – as part of the General Policy Debate (Plenary session of the General Conference) – on Thursday 5th November, 2015.
