PRESS RELEASE – Lashley Winter of Grace, Vieux Fort is the Conference Carolinas Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week. Currently a junior at NCAA Division 2 Barton College, where he transferred from Monroe College (New York) for the 2014-15 season, Lashley was notified of the award on Tuesday.
The soon-to-be 20-year-old, who attended Vieux Fort Comprehensive, finished second among non-NCAA Division I runners and in the top half of the field overall (58th of 150) at the Wolfpack Challenge, which was hosted by North Carolina State University.
The Brooklyn, NY, resident covered the 5K course at the WakeMed Soccer Fields in Cary, N.C. in a time of 16:28.5, leading the Bulldogs to the best finish among six non-DI programs and ninth overall among 16 squads.
Winter has posted Barton’s best time in each of his first two races since joining the team this fall. He is the first Barton male to claim the league’s Runner of the Week award in cross country since Chris Free did so in week two of the 2012 season.
Lashley is pursuing a degree in Mass Communications. He helped set a school record at Monroe College as part of the 4×800 relay team that placed fifth in the 2014 NJCAA Indoor Track and Field National Championships.
Nicknamed “Motto,” Lashley’s favourite athlete is David Rudisha.
