(PRESS RELEASE VIA SNO) – In observance of Women’s History Month, the Consulate General of Saint Lucia in New York will host the New York City book launch for I Am Woman, by Saint Lucian author Loverly Sheridan.
This event will take place on Sunday, March 11, 3:00 PM, at the Saint Lucia House, located at 438 East 49th Street in Brooklyn.
I Am Woman is a collection of first-person narratives by women from all over the globe. In their own words, these women share their compelling and thought-provoking stories. “Every woman has a story,” Sheridan says, “but only she can tell it. I want to encourage women to speak their truth and tell their stories out loud. I discovered that no matter which country I visited there was a common denominator through my various encounters. We all have similar stories of heartache, betrayal, abuse, trauma, rejection, and failure.”
Ms. Sheridan is troubled by the knowledge that so many women feel they have no recourse but to endure the harsh circumstances of their lives.
“I’ve gained such strength and perspective from my encounters with these women through their stories and wisdom. It birthed this book. They are real stories, told by real women from all over the world, in their own words to help empower women to speak out loud, live their truth, and to no longer suffer in silence. And most importantly, to know that they are not alone and that no matter how dark their circumstances, there is a light within each of us holding the spark of self-love and connection. It is that light which exists in all women that continues to carry us through.”
I Am Woman is Sheridan’s second book. Her 2012 debut, A Girl Like Me, recounts how her extensive travels around the world unexpectedly led her on the path to self-discovery. By communicating her experiences in visiting over sixty countries, she seeks to empower, uplift and inspire others, and raise awareness of some of the pressing and heart-rending issues affecting adults and children in various societies. Sheridan has also written several children’s books.
The author will be on hand for her New York City launch, where she will offer a presentation and sign copies of I Am Woman. Copies of her other books will also be on sale. His Excellency Cosmos Richardson, Saint Lucia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, will also be in attendance.
The Consulate encourages all Saint Lucian nationals and friends in the New York City area to attend, and show their support for the island’s artistic community.
