Randy Serville, an alumnus of Oxon Hill High School in the USA, and Sir Ira Simmons Secondary School in Saint Lucia is off to a strong start for the 2019-2020 athletics season.
Running for Coppin State University, a historically black university in Baltimore, Maryland, Serville paced the Eagles men’s cross country team in its pre-Conference competition.
CSU competed at the Delaware State University (DSU) Pre-Conference Run on Friday. The event was run over eight kilometres for men and five kilometres for women at Smyrna, Delaware.
Serville, a 6’0″ 800m specialist, took fourth overall in the men’s race in a time of 31:21.5. Saint Lucian teammate Jervonne Agard (34:12.3) was ninth. CSU men finished second to DSU.
On the women’s side, Saint Lucia national junior record holder for the 400m, Kimani Alphonse (25:29.1) was fifth, one of three CSU runners in the top five.
