Saint Lucia wins “Best Island in the Caribbean”

Living up to its tagline as “Simply Beautiful,” the Caribbean island of Saint Lucia has again risen to the top and has distinguished itself amidst stiff competition as it continues to receive awards and recognition from key travel influencers.

The 238 square-mile island, nestled in the heart of the Caribbean and home to the iconic twin-peaks, The Pitons, a UNESCO-designated World Heritage Site, has copped yet another prestigious international accolade.

Tourism officials are basking in the news that the island has been adjudged winner of ‘Best Island in the Caribbean.’ The latest recognition comes from the US-based Global Traveler, a monthly magazine that focuses on business travelers including both business and lifestyle travel interests.

Boasting a circulation of over 105,000 readers, Global Traveler is available across the United States. The magazine’s awards were launched last year to recognize the best in leisure travel destinations, cruises, tour operators and resorts.

Responding to news of the latest award, Director of Tourism Louis Lewis says, “This is a testament that Saint Lucia is indeed a world class tourism destination and that the one-of-a-kind vacation experiences we deliver through our unique hotels and resorts, restaurants, sites and attractions and other soft adventure excursion partners, truly excites and lifts the senses of the thousands of visitors annually who grace our shores.”

According to Lewis, “we are not in the business to try to win awards but whenever we do, we are happy for the recognition as it speaks volumes to the hard work, commitment and dedication on the part of thousands of our industry workers to ensure that our visitors enjoy their stay with us. We are thankful to the readers of Global Traveler for taking the time to recognize our Simply Beautiful island.”

  1. Especially for a person who does not follow
football as religiously, it could be quite tedious for you to merely evaluate the right
kind of shoes for your kid. You'll find that contract renewals for your existing players are also handled by agents now.
Football greats like Ronaldo of Brazil are remembered by their numbered jerseys.

Uplift your thinking, uplift each other, your children especially to make a wave of positivity that will serve to lift us from this "mal pallent"(bad-mouthing)culture we have adopted as a nation. 11. No doubt that SLU is simply beautiful. Now let's get some tourist dollars to help the economy. By the way, why are the hotels so expensive. Many of the online specials feature Aruba, DR, Jamaica, Cancun etc. I hardly see competitive prices from SLU. It's time to reel in those tourist dollars. More people need to see how beautiful the island truly is. Make it happen!!!!

  15. Well done my sweet beautiful island(Fair Helen)St Lucia still leave up to it's name Simply Beautiful.I am most certainly proud to be a St Lucian and is more overwhelmed that are beautiful island is being reconized as the most beautiful island in the caribbean. You others should be celebrating for receiving such an award too and keep your bad negative comments to u'll self.It is we that have to change whatever stupidness that is affecting us in our beautiful island as St Lucians. St Lucia We Love!!!

  16. We all have to bask in the glory that has been poured upon us. Let us first recognize the beautiful landscape and then the human influence. All of us in the universe are one. I love St. Lucia

  17. I am reading this from Canada. I am very disappointed in the negative comments made about our fair Helen. If you feel or think, SLU is so bad go somewhere else but remember the grass is not always greener on the other side, it just looks like it from afar. While you argue about party affiliation, the representative are laughing it up, hugging up and enjoy life because they are ALL friends. That's why they so easily cross the FLOOR.
Despite the problems, SLU might have you don't have to air your dirty laundry in public. If you have nothing positive and up lifthing to say, say nothing or better still thank GOD that he has chosen to give you one more day on this earth with family and friends.
Spread the love and squash the rest.
Congrats I look forward to enjoy the best of the Caribbean very soon. Miss you!

  19. You know it is an absolute shame that St Lucians can only spew negative comments in response to such news. There is no way that a Trini, Barbadian or Jamaican would respond that way. Dem people too dam proud! If there is anything to be learnt from them it's national pride. It's better that its borders on ridiculous (like it does in some cases) than for it to be almost absent like for lucians. I am extremely proud to be born in the only island that boasts two Nobel laureates and whose beauty is in my very patriotic eyes...unsurpassed!!!! I trust that one day we will build each other up instead of tearing each other down and rejoice in victories like this, however small!

  39. "St.lucia wins best island in the caribbean" and am like "oh wow" until i read two comments that totally changed my mood. First and foremost its true that the crime rate is getting high but think of those other islands that has thousands of muder for a year. This is nothing compared to what is happening in st.lucia. don't get me wrong i am not rejoicing over this. Just stating a point. when will lucians stop putting everything on politicians. If we the people dont unit how is the country gonna get better.

  45. I didn't see any reference to murder rate/crime rate in St. Lucia in the article. So CONGRATULATIONS ST. LUCIA on the award. BLESSED LOVE!!

    (0)(0)
  46. And no you dumb IDIOT (Critic) Its not 6 to 8 murders per month ... its 13 for the first 5 months of the year . Get your facts right !!

    (0)(0)
  47. St Lucia is not the only island with such murder rate. There are others with a much higher murder rate. Furthermore, the title was not based on the murder rate...

    (0)(0)
  48. With about 6 to 8 murders per month? No i dont think so.

    (0)(0)
    • um hello, stop putting your own country down. We understand that we are beginning to have a bit of a crime issue and we definitely need to address this but we are being honoured for other beautiful aspects of the country so stop being a party pooper!!!!

      (0)(0)
    • um hello, stop putting your own country down. We understand that crime is on the rise and we really need to address this horrible problem but we are now being honoured for other beautiful aspects of St. Lucia so be proud and stop being such a party pooper!!!!!!

by the way if you haven't realised crime is on the rise in the former most peaceful Caribbean countries as well. Learn to gain national pride and not put your country down when it has been honoured....SHAME ON YOU!!!

      (0)(0)
    • @ critic......Shut the hell up. You utter nothing but profound ignorance; and you're suppose to be intelligent. Just proved that much is VASTLY false..before you try to degrade us as a race, culture, etc look at your 4king self. When I look at the meaning of a bitter person in the dictionary your picture comes up, again crime is global leave St. Lucia alone please. Stop embarrASSing yourself you idiot.

      (0)(0)
    • @critic your comment based on murders, shows clearly that u dont travel or read, check the statistics of bigger countries, we're a small speck compared to them so one murder alone here feels close to home for everyone as we st.lucias are a big family where everyone knows everyone...or 6 to 8 as you assumed is nothing compared to whats happening in other countries...get off the story page if u dont have anything good to say!

      (0)(0)
    • I'm thinking Critic is NOT Saint Lucia and is therefore bitter about it.

      (0)(0)
  49. Once again, another party hack makes another issue good or bad about politics. Lucians, politics isn't meant to make us angry about everything once our party is not in power. Whether you are an SLP or UWP supporter, no one wants to know what you think about the current administration EVERY SINGLE TIME something good or bad happens in the country. For this I don't associate myself with any party because I for one am annoyed with all this foolish talk. We just received some fantastic news about our country, lets not spoil it with political party bashing.....sheesh!!!!!!

      • St. Lucian at heart

It's a wonderful thing to read. A St. Lucian must stand tall and proud which I'm grateful for this recognition. For the size of America I was hoping more reader than 105,000 people. I like numbers, like million and above. Global Traveler recognized St. Lucia with its little award. Thank you Global Traveler. I hope the Hotels and resorts took note and pay St Lucian better wages and a good pension so they can have a retirement at end of their working years. Government sees large persentage of the tourism money stay on the Island, If there isn't any pension, help pay the debt. Pay fair share of tax....Power of the universe bless St Lucia and all St Lucian......I stress to circluate the tourism money in St Lucia......
