Quite a stir was created on Monday, January 28th at one of London’s busiest commuter train stations as the Saint Lucia Tourist Board joined UK flagship carrier British Airways in launching the airline’s biggest ever ticket giveaway-getaway from Gatwick Airport.
The week-long promotion that featured Saint Lucia on its first day, offered lucky commuters passing through Victoria Station between the hours of 8am to 8pm, a chance of winning 48 pairs of flight tickets to simply Beautiful Saint Lucia – one every 15 minutes.
In order to be part of the unique promotion, commuters simply had to test their flight skills in an arcade-style flying game, specially built on the station’s main concourse. Those taking part were able to take the controls and ‘fly’ over Saint Lucia. The person with the highest score – and therefore deemed to have the most accurate flying skill – every 15 minutes won a pair of tickets to the beautiful island.
One of the excited participants lucky enough to win was Daniel Cather, who was on his way to train as a Special Constable.
Cather said, “I am delighted to have won two tickets to Saint Lucia. I don’t normally come through Victoria station, so this has been a great surprise and I can’t wait to book my flights”.
Jean-Marc Flambert, Director of Marketing UK & Europe, Saint Lucia Tourist Board says, “We are delighted to have worked with British Airways on such a large scale consumer-direct promotion. Saint Lucia is an inspiring destination for so many and to see commuters excited by the chance to win tickets to a dream destination was fantastic. The flight simulator is a fun, interactive entry mechanic that tests people’s skills, allowing them to learn more about Saint Lucia and tapping into that competitive streak we all have.”
Louis Lewis, Director of Tourism, says “We’re pleased to see that the promotion was a success in attracting professionals within our target market. The 48 winners will visit our beautiful island and enjoy our award-winning accommodation, meals and excursions, ultimately resulting in more exposure for Saint Lucia”.
Colm Lacy, British Airways Head of Commercial for Gatwick Airport, said: “We have hundreds of tickets to be given away to some fantastic destinations, so there’s something for everyone in our biggest ever Gatwick ticket giveaway.
“Flying a plane is a dream to many people. But not only can you try your hand at the latest flight game, but we’re also giving them chances to win tickets to a choice of dream locations, including on our newest route to Sir Lanka, which launches on April 14, 2013.”
