The Saint Lucia Tourist Board hosted its second Saint Lucia Showcase trade event in the United Kingdom onSeptember 13th and 14th 2012. The United Kingdom tour operators, travel agents, airlines and hoteliers attended this two-day marketing initiative in Luton, United Kingdom.
Over the two days, the Saint Lucia Tourist Board, island hotels, airlines among others had the opportunity to meet and do business with key UK tour operators and travel agents before the start of the winter season.
In attendance was Saint Lucia’s Minister for Tourism, Heritage and Creative Industries, Honourable Lorne Theophilus. Representatives from the Saint Lucia Tourist Board included Chairman Matthew Beaubrun, Director of Tourism Louis Lewis, Deputy Director of Tourism Tracey Warner Arnold, Nerdin St. Rose, Vice President, Marketing and Sales; and Jean-Marc Flambert, Marketing Director of the United Kingdom and Ireland.
Attendees at Saint Lucia Showcase arranged pre-scheduled meetings to discuss contracts, rates and further develop long standing relationships. Over three hundred meetings took place, which were followed by a presentation by the Tourist Board on the island’s strategy for 2013. Group brainstorm sessions were also held and there was opportunity for networking. The Saint Lucia Tourist Board also had the opportunity to dialogue with tour operators to assess tourism business and marketing programmes for Saint Lucia.
Forty top UK tour operators were present, as well as representatives from twenty five of the island’s hotels and Saint Lucia’s two UK airline partners British Airways and Virgin Atlantic.
The Director of Tourism Louis Lewis spoke on the Showcase.
“After fantastic feedback following last year’s event, we were excited to cement Saint Lucia Showcase as an annual event. Our partners in the UK increasingly feel that the present standard industry fairs and events are too crowded and do not give them time to develop long term strategies for selling the island, so Saint Lucia Showcase provides them with the perfect platform to do so. After such success in the UK, we are looking at implementing similar initiatives in other key markets.”
The Saint Lucia Tourist Board took the opportunity while in the UK to meet with key airline partners, host the Managing Directors of top selling tour operators to Saint Lucia and to review and develop marketing plans with UK Public Relations Agency, airline partners and potential creative agencies.
