(PRESS RELEASE) — The world was shocked by news yesterday of a major fire at the famed Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris, France.
As the House of Assembly commenced Monday’s session, Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Economic Growth, Job Creation and External Affairs, Honourable Allen M. Chastanet, asked members of the House to join him in expressing sympathy, on behalf of the people of Saint Lucia, to French President Emmanuel Macron and the government and people of France, as well as to the Vatican, over the damage to the iconic, historic cathedral.
“This is a catastrophic loss for an incredibly historic site. It would appear that a substantial amount of loss has experienced. Our hearts go out to the people of Paris and our greatest sympathies to both the Vatican as well as the people of France in this difficult time,” noted the prime minister.
The Cathedral of Notre-Dame, which was constructed in 1163 and completed in 1345, is among the most famous landmarks in Paris and one of the world’s greatest architectural treasures.
