Saint Lucia opened their 2015 Windward Islands Women’s Football Tournament account with a 2-2 draw against Grenada at Victoria Park, Kingstown, St Vincent and the Grenadines.

Saint Lucia started brightly with captain Ellaisa Marquis converting directly from a corner kick within the first five minutes of the contest. But Grenada replied late in the half, and then went ahead on the stroke of halftime.

In the second half, winger Shamalyn Albert surged into the box and was up-ended, earning a penalty. The spot kick was converted by Marquis and the game ended in a stalemate.

St Vincent and the Grenadines will be Saint Lucia’s next opponents on Thursday evening. The host nation earned a 1-0 victory over Dominica on Tuesday.

Saint Lucia’s starting lineup included Soufriere’s Zana Bernard in goal; Vieux Fort North central defenders Nicier Octave and Chantal Aldonza, Dennery’s Lana Vitalis and Marchand’s Castel Vitalis; female Footballer of the Year and defensive midfielder Ellaisa Marquis of Marchand, Shamalyn Albert from Mabouya Valley, Franny Wilkie of Marchand, and Silvie Willie from Dennery; forwards Sasha Prospere (Soufriere) and Joan Alphonse (Dennery).

    • Provisionally listed due to not having played more than five matches against officially ranked teams. Saint Lucia lost its last 2 games by a combined 21 goals. Grenada has played one official game (prior to last night) in the last five years.
