(GIS) – This weekend, Saint Lucia staged its historical flotilla, to coincide with the official start of the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC) sea voyage across the Atlantic, from Las Palmas to Saint Lucia.
On Sunday, Nov. 19, the league of small boats left the Castries sea port bound for the IGY Rodney Bay Marina on the same day and at the same time as the Las Palmas sail off—12 noon.
Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister with responsibility for Tourism, Hon. Dominic Feddee expressed high expectations for ARC 2017.
“I think we have an increased number of boats coming and it continues to be a very, very good event. The yachting sector is one of our main sectors and it continues to contribute towards the development of tourism and the enhancement of our economy.”
The minister stated it was a pleasure to see the amount of support and interest shown in this year’s event by the citizenry of Saint Lucia.
“It’s good to see so many of the local sailing fraternity coming and supporting the event. Today we had the big flag raising in Las Palmas, an event I did last year and there were several hundred boats who participated, so we expect a very good turn out in two weeks time when they cross the finish line and come to the Rodney Bay Marina.”
