(SNO) – Gatherings of more than 50 people will not be allowed in Saint Lucia as part of efforts being put in place to combat the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
Saint Lucia has so far recorded two positive cases of the virus.
In a speech to the nation on Monday night, Prime Minister Allen Chastanet announced a series of measures his government is putting in place in light of the disease.
He said large gatherings will not be allowed or is being discouraged.
“Mass crowd events for more than 50 persons is being discouraged,” he stated.
He pointed out that as a first step the Jazz Festival has been canceled and a meeting with stakeholders in the creative and cultural industries will be held on Tuesday.
At that meeting, discussions will be held for carnival and other events.
