(PRESS RELEASE) – The Saint Lucia-Cuba Humanistic Solidarity Association (HSA) today (Aug. 13) joins the people and Government of Cuba in observance of the 94th anniversary of the birth of their immortal leader, the late President and Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro. He will remain a revolutionary icon, in our hearts, our souls and our spirits forever.
HSA still remembers him in a very special way and again express our profound gratitude to the government and people of Cuba, for continuing to develop and honour the revolution for which Fidel fought and died.
Fidel Castro’s vision and desire for a better world for all has positively changed and impacted the quality of life of millions of people. Thousands of students from Saint Lucia, the Caribbean, Africa, Asia and Latin America have been and continue to be the beneficiaries of Fidel’s revolutionary policies in education. They owe their professional lives to the policies of Fidel and of Cuba.
We in Saint Lucia are fortunate that we continue to benefit from Cuba’s immense humanitarian acts. We continue to benefit from Cuban support in the health and education sectors, through free university scholarships and medical assistance programmes. We are eternally grateful.
For example, more than 600 Saint Lucians have graduated from the universities in Cuba and approximately 15,000 of our citizens have benefited from the Cuban Miracle Eye Care Programme, among other initiatives.
Saint Lucia has also received assistance from 113 Cuban medical practitioners, inclusive of doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals from the Henry Reeve Brigade, among 40 countries benefiting in the Caribbean and worldwide in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
As HSA members remember Fidel Castro today, we also take this opportunity to salute the resilient people and Government of Cuba and reaffirm our unwavering solidarity, as we continue to strengthen the bonds of friendship between the people of Saint Lucia and Cuba.
LONG LIVE THE MEMORY OF FIDEL!
