NATIONWIDE – The Foreign Affairs Ministers of Saint Lucia and Venezuela will exchange visits to each other’s country in the next few days.

Yesterday (Friday 7th August), a delegation from Venezuela, led by Venezuela’s Minister for External Affairs, Ms Delcy Rodriguez, arrived in Saint Lucia. While here, the visiting Venezuelan minister met Prime Minister D Kenny D. Anthony and Minister of External Affairs Alva Baptiste.

The Venezuelan delegation is on a regional tour of nine ALBA-Petrocaribe member-countries, including Saint Lucia, in what the Venezuelan Embassy here described as “continued efforts to strengthen bilateral co-operation and brotherhood amongst member countries.”

Meanwhile, on Monday (10th August), Saint Lucia’s Minister of External Affairs Alva Baptiste, accompanied by Saint Lucia’s Ambassador to ALBA-TCP and Petrocaribe Mr. Eustace Vitalis, will be attending the ALBA-TCP and Petrocaribe Political Council Meeting in Caracas.

  1. How do St. Lucia benefit by these visits, is there a secret deal we know nothing about, or is it just a holiday for the boys? the Government of Venezuela is broke, so is St. Lucia, but there's people's Tax money going waste on trips for the boys.

    • It would help if there was something tangible resulting from him going on a plane to different parts of the world. Something tangible for the country.

      • You mean like bridges? Sports facilities? Youth development progranmmes? Housing? Education? These are all areas in which the Government of Venezuela has given tangible support to the people of Saint Lucia in the past four years.

        • And his many trips are only to Venezuela? What are we getting from the other places he visits? We wouldn't have received this support without his many trips? Housing? Education? Sporting facilities? You mean the stuff we get from the Taiwanese also who are right here? Education and no jobs for the educated? Sporting facilities that are left to rot and be used as hospitals for years? Youth programmes and there is an upsurge in criminal activity among the youth and youth unemployment at almost 40%? Do not be distracted by the surface things. The monetary value of his many international trips which the tax payers fund can be used in many other constructive ways.

  3. Alva's travel expenses alone must be this country's deficit! What exactly is he bringing to the table after all his globe trotting?

  4. Why don't we just buy a plane for those ministers. St. Lucia a small country we travel more than the US president.
