Saint Lucia and Dominica poised in WINLOTT U-19 cricket
Simeon Gerson claimed four wickets

(SNO) – Saint Lucia and Dominica are evenly poised after the opening day of play in the WINLOTT Inc. / WICBC Under-19 Tournament, but the youngsters from the Helen Of The West will surely be ruing a couple of late dismissals.

Playing at Progress Park in the Grenadian community of Paradise, Saint Lucia dismissed the boys from the Nature Isle for 198 in 63.1 overs.

Simeon Gerson claimed four wickets and enjoyed the best economy rate as well, returning just 48 runs from his 20 overs on the opening day of a two-day encounter. Craig Elisee and Jannick Seriuex took two wickets apiece. Sanjay Hayle, though he only got one wicket to show for it, was miserly as well, giving up just 50 runs in 19 overs. Himself and Gerson had 95 and 98 dot balls.

For Dominica, Jahseon Alexander was on the attack from early, dominating an early partnership of 77, of which he made 49. He would be next out, however, falling for 62, with Dominica 103/2. The only other partnership of note came late in the innings, when Derry Auguste and Daneal Dupigny added 44 for the seventh wicket.

In reply, Saint Lucia are 120/5, trailing by 78 runs on first innings. Overnight, captain Jonnel Eugene is unbeaten on 29, vice captain Kimani Melius (32) and fellow opening bat Jard Goodman (31) having departed after promising starts.

Wayne Edwards was out for a quickfire 14 as well, whilst Garvin Serieux and Ackeem Auguste unfortunately contributed just their names to the scorecard.

Despite those latter two wickets, Saint Lucia will seek to regroup on Day 2.
