Rugby regional development manager visits St. Lucia

PRESS RELEASE – The Regional Development Manager (RDO) for rugby in the North America and Caribbean region, Mr. Scott Harland, visited Saint Lucia from Sunday September 21 to Wednesday 24 September 2014.

The purpose of the visit was to interface with the local rugby union on matter relating to education and training, promotion and general matters pertaining to the development of the sport locally and in the region.

While on tour of the island, Mr. Harland met with the President of the Saint Lucia Olympic Committee (SLOC), Mrs. Fortuna Belrose where matters were discussed regarding collaboration between the SLOC and the North America and Caribbean Rugby Association (NACRA) in the development of the game on the island.

The RDO also met with Mr. Gilroy Hall who is the Sports Coordinator of the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College (SALCC). He also spoke to a group of Physical Education students on the sport of rugby and the essential purpose of his visit.

This was in relation to efforts by SALCC and the local rugby union to introduce rugby to staff and students at the college.

The RDO also made a courtesy call to the Principal of the Marchand Combined School on Tuesday, as this has been one of the most progressive schools in the development of rugby among the youths in Saint Lucia.

He then conducted a coaching session at the Castries Comprehensive Secondary School for players currently preparing for the NACRA 7’s Tournament to be held in Mexico on December 3 & 4, 2014.
