PRESS RELEASE – St Lucia Electricity Services Limited (LUCELEC) Retiree Donald “Rudy” Daniel is now the owner of a brand new wheelchair, donated by the LUCELEC Sports Club to the man who began working with the company when it was formed in 1964.
Rudy was employed in the Transmission & Distribution Department until his retirement in 2002. His leg was amputated due to complications from diabetes.
LUCELEC Sports Club President Antonius Haynes says the Club was informed by a staff member that Rudy was in need of a wheelchair following the loss of his leg.
After a number of inquiries, the Club, through the Pastoral Centre, was able to secure the necessary piece of equipment for their former colleague.
“The Club was honoured to assist in that way. We felt the onus was on us to assist Rudy, a retiree who had given so much to the company, helping us get to where we are right now,” says Mr Haynes.
Rudy was very grateful for the wheelchair which he says would make it easier to get around. He said it was a “vast improvement” over the loaner chair he had been using since his operation, and was thrilled the assistance had come from the people he had worked with.
Rudy, who regularly attends the annual Retirees Luncheon held by the company to honour those who contributed to its success received his new “wheels” days ahead of that function, and was able to attend “in style”.

I hope wasco take not. This is how you treat the retirees . Not dump them aside
