The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) is now better able to police the northern region of the island with the commissioning of a new police station in the densely populated district of Babonneau.
The state-of-the-art Babonneau Police Station was officially opened on Monday, July 22 ,2013.
Police Commissioner Vernon Francois said this new station will significantly enhance the capability of law enforcement by reducing police response times.
“In terms of proximity Babonneau is a far distance from Castries which is where the district was being policed from, so at least the new police station at Babonneau will assist us with increasing our efficiency and effectiveness in responding to reports from the Babonneau community, and many people will be aware that Babonneau is fast developing into a residential area and there are also some tourist sites in the area, so the new station will also provide the officers an opportunity to police the various tourist sites and assist residents to deal with the problems of crime they may be faced with,” he said.
The top cop is also optimistic that the commissioning of the Babonneau Police Station will also enhance community and police relations.
He said the police are eager to work with residents to keep Babonneau safe.
“With a police station now in the district of Babonneau we will again have an excellent opportunity for police officers to interact with community groups, youth clubs, churches and other organisations in Babonneau in an effort to deliver more effective policing,” Francis said.
The Babonneau Police Station will be headed by an inspector and it will be in operation around the clock.
