RSL 97 launches Christmas Kaleidoscope

The holiday season officially starts on Monday, when RSL97 launches its Christmas programmes.

Fresh off its celebrations following the award of the Diamond Jubilee Medal for its contribution to the nation in the field of broadcasting, RSL 97 continues to make the country its focus.

It has developed a reputation over the years for some of the most creative and fun filled programmes on radio during the holidays and this year promises to be no different. In fact the station says this year’s Christmas Kaleidoscope will be more fun, and even more interactive.

According to Programmes Manager Garfield Alexander this year’s Christmas Kaleidoscope line up features some of the old favorites like “Let’s Make a Deal,” “Christmas Karaoke,” “That’s Hollywood,” and the “Black Cake Competition,” and the new “Under the Tree” children’s programme.

That programme Alexander says will run from the 3rd to the 14th of December and will see the station broadcasting live from five schools across the island. He observes “the schools we have spoken to are excited about the live broadcasts and have started planning special activities for those days”.

Another new feature this year is the RSL97 Christmas Barrel. The idea Alexander says comes out of the station’s concerns for the less fortunate in our country.

Barrels will be strategically placed at a number of locations around the island in an attempt to collect non-perishable items for distribution to some of the island’s less fortunate this holiday season.

“We hope St. Lucians will lookout for these barrels and contribute as we all try to assist our fellow citizens this holiday season”  he says, adding, “there is no better way to spread Christmas cheer than sharing with others who are less fortunate”.

The station will also be approaching corporate St. Lucia to make donations for the Christmas Barrel.

One of the reasons the station is so excited about its Christmas line-up this year Alexander says is that the lineup offers something for everyone.

“Some of our programming takes us out of the studios and brings us into contact with our listeners. We will be able to meet and greet them and to also share and partner with them during this season of goodwill. There are also never-ending opportunities to win prizes on RSL during the season. It’s going to be very different,” he explains.

Even the start of RSL97’s Christmas Kaleidoscope will be different this year. For the first time the station will host an official programme launch ceremony at 10AM in its yard at Morne Fortune. The full programme line-up will be unveiled at that ceremony.

Several of the station’s corporate partners are expected to attend the function and to speak about their involvement in this year’s programme which runs until December 21st 2012.
