The young man who was initially disqualified from the Power Soca final has finally won some consolation.
Claudius ‘J Mouse’ Edmund of ‘Team Dirt’ with the popular song “Hurt It” was on Wednesday announced the 2014 Road March winner with Rituals Carnival Band capturing the Band of the Year award.
The announcement was made by the Carnival Planning and Management Agency at a press conference held at the Cultural Development Foundation office this morning.
Edmund was disqualified from the Power Soca finals after he was deemed too young to compete. Edmund is 17 years old and the competition is for persons 18 and over.
However, Edmund was reinstated by the Appeals Committee who stated that the Saint Lucia Calypso Association (2009) had to abide with the ratification of Edmund’s membership which was approved on June 4, 2014.
“During that process, no cognizance was taken of the applicant’s age resulting in him being approved as a member. The Association takes full responsibility for its actions,” according to the statement.
Edmund, with the stage name J Mouse, went on to finish a creditable third in the Power Soca final on Sunday with 347 points, behind winner and newcomer Ezra ‘D Fun Machine’ Augustin (368 points) and second-placed Ambi, also of Team Dirt (350 points).
“Hurt It” was produced by Aimran ‘Lerry’ Simmons from Studio No Xcitement in St. Lucia.
