Opposition Leader Dr. Gale Rigobert has described Prime Minister Dr. Kenny Anthony’s New Year’s address as “empty” and said it lacked inspiration and hope.
Rigobert was addressing a gathering at Morne Fortune on Wednesday evening, stating that the Prime Minister’s address failed to do what the people were hoping to hear at the start of the year.
“He failed to give hope to a nation desperate for hope,” Rigobert said.
The Micoud North Member of Parliament (MP) spoke about the weak health sector, which she said government has again failed to address, while making reference to St. Jude Hospital’s poor condition.
She said the government has on previous occasions misled the people and the residents of the South into believing that January would have been the last time spent in that hospital/stadium.
But more importantly, Rigobert said Dr. Anthony has not given the people of Saint Lucia any assurance as to when the new national hospital would be opened to better serve Saint Lucians.
The opposition MP also accused Dr. Anthony of failing to outline plans that will stimulate growth in the local economy and create opportunities for both young and old.
Rigobert predicts given the poor performance of the Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) government over the past four years, the United Workers Party (UWP) is more likely to win the next general elections.
She encouraged UWP supporters to place their confidence in the party and come out and support them whenever elections are called, promising them that the team will deliver if re-elected to office.
