PRESS RELEASE – On 25th April 2014, our beloved son and brother Ollie was brutally and tragically murdered. He was shot and his remains and his car set alight and dumped in a remote part of Cap Estate.

This was a shocking end to a life still so full of promise. Ollie was a decent, kind, honest and humorous person and this was not the end he deserved.

The tragedy of his murder has ruined the lives of Ollie’s family, his girlfriend and his many close friends both in St. Lucia and overseas. We are all still in deep mourning for a life so harshly and cruelly taken for no good reason.

Born in Vieux Fort, Ollie was also a very well liked and respected businessman who had encouraged huge investment into the island and facilitated the construction of at least 2 well known hotels which between have employed over 400 staff and which provided many construction jobs along the way.

In fact, the Gobat family have , since Theo Gobat’s arrival to the island in 1972 been responsible for the employment of over 2,000 St. Lucians.

He was also due to represent St. Lucia in the Commonwealth Games in July of this year. Something he was extremely proud of and had worked very hard towards.

It is hard to imagine the cruelty of those who perpetrated this senseless crime. But, sadly, such persons live among us. We ask you now to help us identify them and bring them to justice. For his family, for his friends and for our island which has, in recent years, seen too much violent crime.

The “Justice for Ollie” campaign, made up of his family, friends and local and international business communities  and fully endorsed by the Royal St. Lucia Police Force will therefore be making a statement and announcing a reward  at a special press conference on Nov. 19.

  1. I first had the fortune to come and work in St Lucia in 2010. Being a fellow caribbean a Jamaican I was very impressed by the way St Lucians protected there respect and love for such a wonderful and gracious people.
When I heard of the news of the death of this young man and the way he was killed it lead me to believe that it was a profecional hit I do not know who or what he may of done and maybe no one will but be carful of what you do and say or do to the little man or the big man because it will come back to you.

  2. Great,  as you know who did it - say who it is.  But don't threaten innocent people with dry weeds to eat.  That's not nice.

  3. Point of view

I think you are vulgar in your attitude towards St Lucians.  Your bad ass attitude is an insult to every St Lucian.    You with all your investments - building your hotels on beautiful sites wherever you choose, not giving a damn about the natural beauty of the little island.  Then to say St Lucians should be appreciative of you,  during times of water shortages who do think gets water first - the hotels and lastly the Lucians get water.  You fail to realise that if St Lucians didn't work in your hotels etc  your hotels wouldn't function and your investment would fail.   Who benefits the most from your investments  -  you do.  And all you have to offer is dry weeds for food?  Dry weeds!!   You pig!
You have no intention of packing up and moving elsewhere - you're too greedy.  And even if you did - who gives a shit, and take your f##king dry weeds with you.

  4. If you know who did it - say who it is.  Don't threaten innocent people with having to eat dry weeds - that's not nice.

    • It may not be nice, but that is reality. People can go elsewhere. There are plenty of safer places to spend money. Then you all really will regret it.

  5. we all know who did it. He didn't deserve to die. I hope u lucians appreciate what he and other investors have done for you. We can all take our money elsewhere and you will pick dry weeds for food. Let's talk

  8. Having read the court case posted by 'Lucian Eyes' above I am wondering;  as Ollie was to trying to unmask this blogger who was damaging his reputation and business at The Landings in Rodney Bay and having lost the case Ollie was then given 30 days to pay $15,000 to the unknown blogger  to cover legal expenses etc - this brought the timing up to just over a month before his murder.
WHAT IF :-   Ollie didn't pay this money in his final attempt to draw the 'masked blogger' out in order to unmask their identity but unfortunately the blogger may have approached Ollie as he left the golf course that evening and ended his life .  (check his bank statements/transactions)   Just what if.....

Could there be a legal requirement that the masked bloggers' legal representative (catherine gellis) is now required to unmask this person as Ollie has been murdered.   Was murderer someone 'high up' or with high society connections in St Lucia?

The case seems have begun in 2013, as seen on various internet postings.  Here's another link  (there are also others) -

But this issue may have no connection to Oliver Gobats murder.  (RIP)
Leave no stone unturned, rattle all the cages and hopefully something may roll out.

  10. This may have nothing to do with his 'exceution' but someone was harrassing Ollie on the net - an annonymous blogger who Ollie took a court case to try and unmask the blogger.  Ollie lost the case.  This case ended just 2 months before his untimely death.  It may have no relevance. (I never meet Olliver )

  11. Can't believe your pathetic comments.. all behaving like ghetto scum.. without the Gobat family a lot of you would be eating dirt.. but the police are corrupt, especially ex police that now run businesses, and politicians with other agendas, the whole country needs a shake up. Too many backhanded deals... I hope someone tells the truth and uses the money to make a better life for their family. The country swims in blood.

  13. People like Ollie treated us St.Lucians real bad. They gave us jobs but treated us like dogs. Won't even say good morning when their see us. Like his best friend Andrew B. I feel sorry for his murder and no one deserve that and I hope they get justice but I would recommend that the business employers need to treat people right, u never know the enemies they created. So I hope he gets justice but be kind to people.

    • I get ur point too! I see the white man go about their business as if they are superior! treating their workforce with no repect because of this! they are wrong for doing this, but there again things can come back to bite you! But I do hope Gobat gets justice served!

  14. I cannot understand how ST. Lucians have become so wicked. Their hearts are only on money, power and crimes. What happen to the good old St.Lucia we knew. But for the family of this young man, we all are recreated by god. We all have the capacity to know him. Some more than others. Prayer governs god. Keep praying that the hand of God touch that person's heart and that he gives himself up to the authority. I once prayed that the power that raised Jesus from the dead touch the heart of the person who killed a friend. And boy the police was on his trail and he was caught. Have faith. Faith can remove mountains.

    • Ur right Money does talk! It works both ways, the reward could make someone come out with the information to solve this crime but money can also silence people if given enough to say nothing by the person/s involved! But we can just pray the reward shows up the Corrupt!
