UWP concludes talks with St. Lucians living in the UK

The article below is a press release/statement from the United Workers Party (UWP) and NOT St. Lucia News Online

Political Leader and Deputy Political Leader of the United Workers Party, Allen Chastanet and Gale Rigobert, respectively, have returned from London where, among other engagements, they held a highly successful meeting with the Saint Lucian diaspora living in the United Kingdom.

The animated dialogue focused on issues of public safety, affordable quality healthcare, education and the current Saint Lucia Labour Party administration’s foreign affairs posture, and its implications for Saint Lucia’s relations with traditional friends and partners in the international community.

Some of the issues raised by the diaspora include access to affordable health insurance in Saint Lucia, personal public safety, relaxation of the stringent banking rules for returning residents, and offering special incentives for Saint Lucians desirous of investing in Saint Lucia.

Saint Lucians living in the UK were encouraged to participate more fully in the political process by forming a Party Support Group. This will afford them a more direct involvement in the decision making process of the Party and allow them a platform for advancing their concerns and form policies accordingly.

The London meeting is the first in a series of such meetings to be held over the next few months in various metropolitan cities where there are large enclaves of Saint Lucians.

  3. I will repeat this man is in no fit state to be leader of any political party in St Lucia. Has he put any of his assets in a blind trust? This is needed so the voters in St Lucia can have confidence in the electoral process.A man with so much wealth cannot simply buy his way into the political establishment.

This is where the word corruption comes into play. Another thing I heard he was born in Martinique, and if this is the case then the current government should pass a law stopping foreign-born people from becoming prime minister of St Lucia. America has that law and so are many other countries. Martiniquans have unjustly claimed Empress Josephine as theirs, when we know that she was born in St Lucia. We cannot afford to have them laying claim to another potential leader. I hope this man never becomes prime minister of St Lucia. Hope Stephenson King can defeat him in another leadership contest. Bravo to you Mr. King. You are worth much more than this man of European origins who so proudly espouses to that.Let someone from the majority come forward and take over the reins. This man being leader is a giant step backwards.

We need to stop this from happening. Let us take St Lucia back. Viva Saint Lucia!

      • Wait a minute. Is that you Sue Me? So you are still in circulation I presume. It's amazing how timely your absence has been. But you are still up to your old tricks - and crap.

When you talked about "incarceration" I think you may be refering to yourself here since I have not been hearing from you for a while now. Your absence says it all. See I have been commenting on lots of other forums including this one. I revisit the Star from time to time to tell a good tale. I am also commenting on Haitian sites as well.

See I am keeping busy unlike you who seems to be fixated on anything that I write.Have you heard the saying 'get a life' - Well I think you need to get one.

  4. this is the wrong forum and headline to discuss this but Kenny has his exit strategy already, he's trying to over throw CCJ judge Sir Byron so he can take that role, and make st lucia adopt the CCJ so he can among other things never be prosecuted for any criminal or civil offenses that may arise. Secondly its my understanding he and is wife are almost finished building their mansion in trinidad,if this a man for country, whole chu pah bon!!!!!!!!

      • Let's see, remember all what i say, 2-3 years from now when it finally happens, kenny will not contend the next general elections, watch and see, the us already filing suits against him, have u noticed everytime he has to attend anything in the official capacity as prime minister of st lucia in the us he always sends someone in his place, why? the us government is looking for him

    • That's how dictators do it, screw-up a country and go exile in another, well he will finally get his castle/mansion as he always wanted to be king/president of Saint Lucia. That man is all bent on absolute power, but then again, it's hereditary and running through every fibre of his being.
Hope he's aware that half of the people in Trinidad are not descendants of slaves, and that it'll be tough for him to be a modern slave master.
His heart was always in Trinidad and not Saint Lucia, that's why he never really gave a shit about us peasants...good riddance!

      • What a load of Codswallop and tosh! Dr. Anthony is the consummate politician and leader and your characterization of the Right Hon. gentleman is way off the mark and malevolent.

Dr. Anthony like myself believes in integration- We are all one Caribbean and I believe that we should all come together as one. There is absolutely nothing wrong with him having a Trinidadian address.None whatsoever! At least he is a born and bred Lucian.

The previous head of state namely Sir John Compton, was not even born in St Lucia, yet he was prime minister. No one complained when he was ruling the country. Are you forgetting the strike of 1979, when quite a few folks were brutalized? How about including him and the word dictator in the same sentence? I think they may well go together.

Some of you people deliberately try to forget about the barbarity, savagery and inhumanity that prevailed under this old codger. He was hell-bent on absolute power. He was unequivocal and indubitable and felt that St Lucia owed him something. The man was not even from St Lucia.

No one knew anything about him. Up to now very few people know anything about his whereabouts. Where was he from originally? At least most Lucians know that Dr. Anthony was born in Laborie. He was schooled in st lucia. He is a son of the soil and a breath of fresh air. He is charismatic and articulate.Dr Anthony has done more for St Lucia in his short rein than Sir John ever did during his long spell as leader.Keep it up Dr. Anthony. St Lucia needs you and you will always be there for your beloved country.

  6. oplz spare me the non-sense, Lets talk about issues that being faced my many St Lucians living abroad, Non Status the biggest of all, Struggles in cost of living, poor societal Integration, abuse and miss-use of the law, suppressing of the their very own. Some even go as far as carrying their ghetto and poor taste in then St Lucian behavior abroad.
So tell Chastney to shut his mouth, go back there and have a real conversation with the folks living up there, no the wealth and well established ones but the ones that really needing the support and help.

  7. Bravo to the political leader and the deputy leader of the UWP or undertaking this first trip. All right thinking Saint Lucians who live here and abroad know that the United Worker's Party is the real alternative to the maladministration of the incumbent SLP. Good luck as you plan other missions or visits to the USA, Canada and elsewhere!

    (0)(0)

    • No, the UWP isn't the real alternative for the country. It would be a mistake to allow them a shot at it again. Over 40 years for the same is enough. It's time for St Lucians need to look at something different.

What I see here is classical UWP politics. Will say and do anthing to return to power, but why didn't you do all the things you want to see done -only now. Shame on you!!!

      • Isn't this the typical style of slp as well, say and do anything to get into power, vat is evil, gambling is evil, richard is evil, pay the civil servants, airport tax is evil, taiwanese money is evil, finger print scans for id cards are evil, vat was implemented, gambling more welcomed, richard takign them to court and buying two new vehicles when he was suppose to be in jail, civil servant take your 4% and shut your'll asses, taiwanese money still funding constituency projects and not government ones, finger print scans was thier own law but were so caught up in trying to be on news 24/7 that they forgot that.

        • UWP is showboating. Chastanet and Rigobert are two of a kind. It's all a big show for nothing. Can we get the truth about what really happened in London?

You mean, it's only now there have been obstruction to St Lucians abroad investing in St Lucia. Give me a big fat break.

We need to get away from this crap and elect something new. UWP has no ideas and nothing going for it except the election of a showman as its leader.

          (0)(0)

          • what's something new? every bad thing u can say about uwp and can say about slp, so whats the alternative there aren't any new answers. when slp first came into power first person they asked to be a consultant was chastanet why is that? not because u do like someone because of perception does mean they not worth looking at, vaughn lewis when he was prime minister slp called him "always drunk" now he's there with them hand in hand cause they knew his value he is a great economist

            (0)(0)

          • yet u cannot suggest the "new" which u talk about. cause for damn sure u cant be referring to SLP. so if UWP is also bad. who else is left. Tom, Dick & Harry.
            smh
