The first ever beach soccer festival was a huge success and the kids who participated left the event with yet another positive football experience. FIFA certified beach soccer coaches Chris Binghi & Thomas conducted a 90 minute technique clinic demonstrating techniques needed to succeed on the sand.

They also pointed out that using proper technique will minimize injuries. The SLFA conducted a Beach Soccer Coaching course only 2 few weeks ago & a representative attended the event to see their vision & plans for the sport materializing.

Although attendance was less than anticipated the event was a success because:

  • we ensured a safe environment for our 97 kids & parents in attendance
  • no major injuries or incidents reported
  • kids enthusiasm was off the charts
  • kids displayed an understanding of the technique & skill adjustments needed.
  • many goals were scored
  • kids did not want to stop playing football …

45 goals were scored in 8 matches and although the strikers were on fire on the sand, it was the goal keepers who put on an extravaganza at the tournament. We witnessed approximately 176 saves from the young custodians; brave, acrobatic & some just pure lucky saves to deny the goal hungry hunters.
