PRESS RELEASE – Three games were scheduled on Saturday, May 3 with Gros Islet hosting one and a double-header at the Vigie Sports Complex.

With all teams fighting for a semi final playoff birth at the near end of the regular season, Sandals and Combined Forces both tried to book their place in the final four of the Division One League in Gros Islet.

A seesaw battle throughout the game saw a number of lead changes with Combined Forces leading at the half 42 – 35.  At the start of the fourth quarter, Sandals led by one point 54 – 53 and extended that lead to seven points with 3:28 minutes to go before a spirited comeback from Combined Forces led by KFC Player of the Game Kerlinus Augustin to take full control and winning late 79 – 73. Austin finished with 16 points and four steals and Shervon Matthew aided him with 22 points and four rebounds.  For Sandals, Gaspen Thomas finished with a huge double-double of 24 points and 15 rebounds in their loss.

At the Vigie Sports Complex still on Saturday, Canaries Moon River was awarded the win over Dennery Dolphins in the first of two games. Defending champions Courts Jets were locked in a close one against Soufriere Sulphur Stars in game two before pulling away with a 68 – 57 final score.  Ron Dumurville was the KFC Player of the Game for Courts Jets with 13 points and four steals in that game.

Combined Forces Team.

On Sunday, two games also featured at the Vigie Sports Complex with a Division One Game tipping off the night. Courts Jets Co-Ed faced Micoud Hustlerz and got routed 85 – 37.  KFC Player of the Game Canaan St. Catherine led all scorers with 25 points, seven rebounds and eight steals for Micoud with Ulric Joseph also having a strong game with 20 points and 21 rebounds.

In game two of the evening, Babonneau Dynasty and Canaries Moon River were both trying to secure wins to boost their chances of last four qualification. A gutsy fightback for Babonneauy saw them claim all the points in this one after being down a double digit lead in the fourth to win 67-62. Mervin Augustin was the KFC Player of the Game with 20 points and 12 rebounds and Leonard Emmanuel contributed with 23 points and seven steals.

For Canaries, Tyson St. Cyr had a huge night on the boards with 18 points to go with 21 rebounds and Chris Alexander chipped in with 19 points and eight rebounds in their loss.

Point standings of both leagues will be provided in a subsequent broadcast as well as schedule for final set of games in the regular season for Tuesday May 6th, 2014.
