PRESS RELEASE – The crowd witnessed an amazing exhibition of basketball this past Saturday, as the curtains came down on the 2nd Annual KFC Commercial Basketball League.

In front a capacity filled Beausejour Indoor Facility, the third place and championship games were the final chapters in this year’s tournament.

The third place game between Media Ballerz versus Scotia Bank tipped the evening’s double-header off with both teams desperate to finish the tournament with one final win and the award of third place in the 2014 KFC Commercial Basketball League.

Media Ballerz started the game the more aggressive and determined of the two teams as they quickly jumped off to an 18-5 1st quarter lead.

Nerves played a part in Scotia’s slow start but credit must be given to them as they came back in the 2nd quarter winning the quarter 16 – 13 and pull in within 10pts of Media 31 – 21 at the half.

KFC Player of the game for Media Ryan Headley put on a very good performance in an important game for his team steadying them in the 2nd half with the help of good defence and transition ball from Media.

A low scoring 3rd quarter went Media Ballerz way 10 – 9 which made it an interesting and intriguing 4th and final quarter of basketball to be played with Media leading by 11.

Scotia inspite winning the quarter 17 – 15, proved too little as Media went on to win the game 56 – 47 and take home the accolades of third place in this year’s KFC Commercial Basketball League.

Ryan Headley had 16pts and 9rebs and Arthur Lisson also added a double-double of 16pts and 10rebs for Media.  Shamoir Jn Baptiste for Scotia led all scorers with 28pts and 7rebs in a losing effort.

The marquee game of the evening then followed with the much anticipated championship clash between St. Lucia Fire Service and The Goddard Group.

Marcian Calderon, Jerry Charles and Fire Service in their 2nd successive trip to the finals, were intent on bettering a runners up place last year when they had victory snatched from their grasps by eventual winners Police.

Goddard Group in their first postseason outing in Commercial Basketball has impressed through the play of Andre Louison and Ali Quinlan and the team has collectively played some good basketball en route to the finals.

The script made it the making for a great game of basketball as both teams wanted to claim the right of being champions of the KFC Commercial Basketball League.

Fire Service through Marcian Calderon and Owen Cazaubon used their size to telling effect early to take a 9-point lead 20 – 11 at the end of the first.

Goddard kept it closer in the 2nd quarter with both teams scoring 13 apiece taking Fire Service at the half time interval with a 33 – 24 lead.

When the 2nd half started it was all Goddard Group storming back in the game through the play of defensive guard Danzie Mathurin and the scoring combo of Andre Louison and Ali Quinlan winning the 3rd quarter 19 – 11 and to get within 2 points of Fire Service 45 – 43.

There was a feeling of déjà vu for Fire Service when the final quarter of basketball started which had both set of fans nervously looking on and the neutrals entertained at the spectacle.

In the end, although Goddard huffed and puffed, it was Fire Service digging deep and clinged on to that 2-point lead to win in the end by that same margin 56 – 54 and become the new champions of the KFC Commercial Basketball League 2014.

Marcian Calderon led the scoring for Fire Service with 17pts and 12rebs.  Jerry Charles also chipped in with 10pts and 6 rebs but the KFC Player of the Game was team captain Owen Cazaubon with his crucial 13pts, 10rebs and 4 steals for Fire Service.

Andre Louison for runners up Goddard led his team with 17pts, 16rebs and 5 steals.  Ali Quinlan added 16pts and 6rebs and Danzie Mathurin had 12pts and 12rebs.
