PRESS RELEASE – Digicel 4G has now joined the perfect club after they easily swept past fellow new comers LeSport 78 – 53 in the first of last evening’s double-header in the KFC Commercial Basketball League.
Digicel 4G now joins Media Association and Renwick & Company as the only teams to go through the group stages with a 100% record.
KFC Player of the game Kevin Plummer had an impressive defensive performance for Digicel finishing the game with 8pts, 16rebs and 8 steals.
Neil Verdant also led all scorers with 19pts and grabbed 7rebs for Digicel. For Lesport, Martin JnBaptiste led their scoring attack with 18pts and 6rebs but proved too little to give them their first win in this year’s competition.
LeSport finishes with a 0-4 record and will need to wait till next year to better that result.
In the final game on the night and in the group stages, last year’s beaten finalists St. Lucia Fire Service edged out ECFH 50 – 41 to qualify for the quarterfinals which start this coming Friday.
With the win, St. Lucia Fire Service (3-1) leapfrogs Police (2-2) as the #2 seed in group A behind Renwick & Company.
Marcian Calderon contributed 16pts and 10rebs in Fire Service’s win, proving enough to award him the KFC player of the game.
Owen Cazaubon also added 10pts and 7rebs in the win. Omar Burch Smith led the scoring for ECFH with 12pts and 8rebs. Kurleigh Solomon also added 10pts and 3rebs in ECFH’s loss.
Last evening’s two games have now ended the group stages of the KFC Commercial Basketball League. The knock-out quarterfinal stages are all set and will commence this coming Friday and Saturday at the Beausejour Indoor Facility. The teams through to the quarterfinals are:
