Republic of China (Taiwan) pledges commitment to St. Lucia

2016-01-16 17_34_15-Taiwan Elects Its First Female President _ TIMEPRESS RELEASE – The President-Elect of the Republic of China (Taiwan), Her Excellency Tsai Ing-wen, has re-affirmed her commitment to maintaining the strong bonds of friendship between the Government and people of Saint Lucia and the Republic of China (Taiwan).

In a letter to Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Economic Affairs, Planning and Social Security, Hon. Dr. Kenny D. Anthony, President-Elect Tsai Ing-wen stated:

“As long-standing allies, Taiwan and Saint Lucia share a strong commitment towards building closer political, economic and cultural relations.

“My future Administration looks forward to working closely with Saint Lucia to deepen our cooperation in areas of public health, education, infrastructure, and culture.”

The Prime Minister, at a recent meeting with the Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan), His Excellency Ray Mou, stated;

“This marks a monumental achievement in the political landscape of the Republic of China as it has elected, for the first time, a female to be President. We also welcome and congratulate her running mate, His Excellency Dr. Chen Chien-jen, as Vice President-Elect of your great nation. We wish them both successful terms and look forward to working with them in the coming years.”

In 2015 the Government of Saint Lucia established the Saint Lucia Embassy in Taiwan, touted by President Tsai Ing-wen as an affirmation of strong bilateral relations between the two territories.
