Relief for construction workers

Thursday, August 16, 2012 – Prime Minister and the Minister for Finance, Honourable Dr. Kenny D. Anthony will officially launch the much anticipated “Construction Stimulus Programme” on Tuesday, August 21st, 2012.

The Construction Stimulus Programme is being implemented in conjunction with the private sector, and is a direct and immediate response to the lethargic economic environment currently being experienced largely as a result of the global financial situation.

Press Secretary to the Prime Minister Jadia Jn Pierre Emmanuel explains preliminary work was undertaken for some months now.

“After months of consultation and preparatory work, Government is confident that the various partners in the roll out of this Programme such as the St. Lucia Chamber of Commerce, St. Lucia Bankers Association, Customs Department and other Government Agencies will be ready to offer the public the benefits of reduced prices on all basic building materials, reduced fees associated with new mortgages for residential and commercial construction, and soft financing for these projects”.

More details on the Construction Stimulus Programme and the benefits to the average consumer will be provided on the launch date next Tuesday.

The stimulus was first announced by the Prime Minister during the 2012/2013 national budget.
