Prudent welcomes “Spider” Montoute to the race

PRESS RELEASE – I look forward to engaging a man who has made a career out of running for office in Gros Islet for the past 20 years.

The people of Gros Islet will be given the opportunity to decide whether they wish to cling to the past or chart a bold and promising future, in which all constituents are treated with respect and given equal opportunity to gain employment and upward mobility regardless of political affiliation.

We need men and women who are capable of demonstrating consistency in their commitment to Gros Islet whether in or out of office, rather than someone who has remained distant from the community over the last four years because of his inability to secure reelection.

I am confident that I have the requisite attributes to give Gros Islet and Saint Lucia a fresh start, as evidenced by my socio-political engagement over the past five years.

  2. Prudent and his lot need to get a life. Who in their right mind will vote for these opportunists? At the last election they lost their deposits and will suffer the same fate come the next election. I have never come across a bunch of men who are so eager for office and who have nothing to offer the populace. The LPM is an offshoot of the UWP. They have zero credibility among the St Lucian people.

The People of this country have rejected them and will continue to do so at every given opportunity.Spider Montoute is a man of the people and will continue to be. He has not abandoned his people to go living in the Big Apple or elsewhere like these pretenders are doing. Spider is there with his people. He is living among his people.Had it not been for the LPM's interference he may well have been elected to parliament at the last general election. The votes that Prudent received should have gone to Spider.

St Lucians need to send out a message to the LPM in the upcoming election and that message need to be loud and clear- Get out and stay out of St Lucia's political life. You have absolutely nothing to offer the people of our lovely country. To say that the leader of this group of pathetic men is cocky would be an understatement.

"I am confident that I have the requisite attributes to give Gros Islet and Saint Lucia a fresh start, as evidenced by my socio-political engagement over the past five years". That statement is not structured coherently mate. Something is not adding up in this statement which looks like it was hastily put together. Who are you trying to fool sir?

He rattles on about respect in his edict yet has shown very little to the ebullient Spider Montoute, with whom he was once pals. He has shown very little respect to Gros Islet's one time MP. What type of friend is he when he openly and blatantly competes with Spider who has been there for him? Friends support each other and do not compete against each other. This man has no principles and will do anything for fame and power and it is for that reason the people of his town should reject him and his bunch of wheeler dealers. They are carpet baggers and bottom feeders. They are not worthy of the trust of the St Lucian public.

The Lucian electorate isn't ready for a third party. Next Year's election will be between two parties namely the United Workers Party (UWP) and the St Lucia Labour party (SLP) A battle between left and right. Lucians do not have the appetite for the centre. They never have. Back in 1982 the late George Odlum introduced his Progressive Labour party (PLP) into the political landscape and they were mauled. Not even George won his seat and it was left to his brother John Odlum to pick up the pieces and to represent the PLP in parliament. The SLP suffered their heaviest defeat ever winning only two seats with sir John winning by a landslide. If there is a need for any evidence as to why this country cannot stomach a three horse race then this is it.

The UWP is in complete and utter turmoil since the advent of Allan Chastanet as leader. They are in perpetual decline and the LPM isn't making life any easier for them with the vote-sharing. Quite a number of disillusioned flambeaus will either not vote or as a mark of protest give their votes to the other smaller parties and independents. In places like Gros Islet votes will be crucial if the UWP are to gain ground and to win there.

The indomitable Emma Hippolyte, put up a good fight in 2011 as the race was tight and most times too close to call. She went on to win by a slender lead and may have her work cut out this time round. This time round Spider is leaving no stones unturned in his quest to become the district representative for Gros Islet. For the current incumbent to win she will have to put the wheels in motion from now on. She will need to woo the under 25's who were not able to express their franchise in the last election. They will need a lot of convincing especially if they feel that she has neglected their community.

Spider looks determined as ever. The UWP does not have a cat in hell's chance of winning the next election. They are too deeply divided and lack a charismatic leader to lead them to victory. They have killed the goose which laid the golden egg. Stephenson King is their man with the midas touch but instead of supporting him they have sent him packing and elected to have a man with nothing going for him as leader. Their current leader in the House Of Assembly lacks charisma. Her leadership skills have been found wanting so much so that her sidekick Chastanet have decided to replace her as leader half way through. He is not elected She is yet he is able to marginalise her like this. I cannot even begin to fathom what this irksome character would be like in power.

Abraham Lincoln once said If you cannot trust people in little things then you should not trust them in big things. These wise words are pertinent and revealing and without any shadow of a doubt relates to this esurient capitalist. That is why the St Lucian public should never elect this man into office. The member for Castries central once declared that this man spends money like there is no tomorrow. There have been some discrepancy about his spending while in public office. He is alleged to have spent an entire fortune on telephone calls alone. The vast sums that was spent could easily have provided employment to a few of St Lucia's unemployed.

St Lucia needs strong leadership along with strong fiscal policy something that neither the leader of the LPM nor that of the UWP can provide -Both of these men are untried and untested and frankly they have demonstrated enough to keep them well away from the corridors of power in St Lucia. They should not be allowed anywhere near the House Of Assembly unless it's for a private visit or otherwise.St Lucia need people who will serve her interests and that of her people.

  3. So this Prudent man knows very well that he cannot contest elections in a country unless he gives up his citizenship of the US. When he took that democratic oath to become a US citizen, it meant give up all rights, passport of the foreign land. He knows that the laws in the US is as such and before vying, he had to denounce his citizenship to St. Lucia. He's game is silly and selfish! If he wins he'll give it up but is he loses, he'll keep it. See whats wrong with this? Politicians shold be living in the country thru and thru and not be there for convenience and opportunities. Too many unanswered questions.... For those of you who doubt me or think I don't know what I'm talking about, I too am a US working in law enforcement.

    • Total rubbish. You know nothing about the status or intentions of Mr Prudent. Go back and check the laws of both country. Why don't you direct the same concern to Mr Montoute who holds a green card and has children born in America.

  8. Prudent you made one big mistake after the last elections. We know your love and admiration for John Compton, and his Party needed good men. But you wanted to be a Big-shot so you went ahead and started your own Party. What's with you guys that you wouldn't learn? TET-WED? you will lose again and may cause the man to lose again, thanks to you.

    (2)(0)

    • Are you saying that Prudent should fold up his party LPM and join a divided party called the UWP. Check this out almost 8 years after Compton's death the UWP is still fighting among themselves. Check the way the UWP is behaving. Prudent did not make a mistake. He made the right decision and I am glad to see that 8 years after Compton's death he is still faithful to the LPM party he started. I'd like to see more politicians in the country with his balls.

  9. Who does Prudent think he is. He could not even win a seat during the last elections. He is talking crap

    (2)(0)

    • So what he lost on his first try with a new party. Does that mean he can't win this time? Montoute has had the full weight of an establish party behind him and still he has only managed one win. I have a feeling that Prudent is going to surpise a lot of people who are counting that this elections is like the last one.
