Wednesday, June 27, 2012 – The Saint Lucia Tourist Board in collaboration with L’Express Des Iles has embarked upon a fresh promotion drive targeted at the French Antilles in anticipation of this year’s summer season.
A delegation of 20 journalists and 6 L’Express Des Iles employees from Martinique were recently on island conducting a media tour, and experiencing the island’s nightlife, shopping, tours and attractions.
The intention is to produce promotional material on Saint Lucia to be aired in Martinique in the coming weeks.
Deputy Director of Tourism, Tracy Warner Arnold says the French Antilles continues to be an important market for Saint Lucia’s tourism product. “The people of Martinique and Guadeloupe coming to Saint Lucia is business for us…so that’s very significant- it’s very important business for us.”
For Saint Lucia Carnival in July this year, Warner Arnold says, three hundred and eighteen people from Martinique and Guadeloupe have already confirmed their participation in the final two days of the colourful carnival parade through the streets of the capital, Castries. .
Mrs. Warner Arnold invited the french journalists and their audience to a new initiative of the SLTB- a “Health and Wellness Retreat” to be held in October at Pigeon Island in the north of Saint Lucia. “Another thing that I want to tell you about is the Gonmye Race….collaboration with the Saint Lucia/Martinique association who really are the main people who coordinate it.”
Matthew Beaubrun, Managing Director of Cox and Company- agents in Saint Lucia for L’Express Des Iles maintained his company’s commitment to the growth of travel between Saint Lucia and the French Antilles.
