PRESS RELEASE – Currently ongoing is a summer programme hosted by the Department of Probation and Parole Services which seeks to provide the youth with accurate information on sexual health and related issues.

The theme for this year is “Taking Care of Me” and the objective of the programme this year is to equip probationers with the necessary tools to make informative decisions in relation to their sexual health and lifestyles in the future.

The programme commenced on August 6, 2015 and by its conclusion on August 27, 2015 organizers are hoping that participants would have learnt a lot through this initiative.

The activities are centered around Social Justice Art with a focus on Sexual Exploitation. Social Justice Art encompasses a wide range of visual and performing art that aim to raise critical consciousness, build community, and motivate individuals to promote social change.

According to  Probations Officer Alina Auguste: We have been focusing on linking topics such as gangs, drugs and mass media and showing our young persons how they can get hooked into sexual exploitation.

On our last day, we will be having a Special Guest Speaker. She will be speaking to both young persons with difficult behavior and also to their parents.

On that same day, the Department will also be having a Gallery that the members of the public are invited to come in to view and this will highlight what the participants have created during this period.

Sexual Education Month is an observance that the Department engages in every August because this issue has been identified as a major area of concern for our clients.
