Prime Minister’s Cup Twenty20 to get underway this weekend

cricketThe richest, most prestigious cricket competition ever staged in Saint Lucia will get underway this coming weekend.

The Prime Minister’s Cup Twenty20 will feature 13 teams competing for prize money in excess of $25,000 over the course of three weeks.

An offical event on the calendar of activities for the 37th anniversary of Independence, the tournament starts on 6 February from 3pm at the newly constructed La Ressource Playing Field in Mabouya Valley, featuring some of the island’s top cricketers.

Following a presentation by Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Kenny D. Atnhony on Saturday, there will be two matches. Gros Islet will play South Castries from Group A, followed by Mabouya Valley going up against Dennery from Group B.

Anse La Raye, Babonneau, Central Castries, Choiseul, Dennery, Gros Islet, Laborie, Mabouya Valley, Micoud, Mon Repos, Soufriere, South Castries and Vieux Fort North will play for the first place prize money of $10,000. The other top four teams will cash $7,500, $5,000, and $2500.

Individual prizes will also be on offer for man of the match, most sixes, and play of the game. Each team will be provided with a brand new set of cricket uniforms and a gear bag. In between matches, fans will get the opportunity to take part in the fun with games such as “Catch it if you can,” “Longest Six,” “Legend Challenge,” and lots more.

Matches will be played at Piaye, Gros Islet and Mabouya Valley. The tournament is organised by the Saint Lucia National Cricket Association, in collaboration with the National Lotteries Authority.
