Prime Minister to address the nation on status of wage negotiations, thanks civil servants who turned up for work

Prime Minister, Hon. Dr. Kenny D. Anthony, has expressed his gratitude to all public sector workers who reported for duty on Monday, February 25, 2013.

The prime minister is deeply grateful that despite reports of a planned sick out over ongoing wage negotiations, many public sector workers were on hand to provide services to the public.

Dr. Anthony will address the nation on the status of wage negotiations on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at 8 p.m.

NOTE: St Lucia News Online has received reports of civil servants not appearing for work today, Monday, Feb. 25. As a result some schools across the island did not open today due to what is being described as a “sick out” by some teachers – an action which may continue tomorrow, Tuesday, Feb. 26

  1. Don't you think lucian girl is more mad than Kenny Anthony. A whole bunch of fools calling others like themselves mad or crazy. I en care with none of those political bandits or the morons who supports them and when they do not get political favours they come on the blog to write all sorts of things. I am a survivor, so up left to those who depends on hand outs.

  3. Because one or some teachers "Push their hands into their pockets, or dip into their own lunch bags at schools which don't have the feeding programme"

DOES THAT MEAN THAT THEY ALL NEED AN INCREASE???? PLEASE, SPARE ME!........

Everyone is feeling the pinch but only some (apparantly, not the teachers) understand how to put your country first. SAINT LUCIA CAN'T AFFORD SUCH SALARY INCREASES!!!!

  5. nihma u make perfect sense. those people tht are speaking kenny are clearly those tht have been brain washed by the puppet and those pulling the strings. yow honestly u'll need to put politics aside and really analyze whats goin on. this is wat it is i eh no labor or no flambo but the truth is dem ppl need to relax. somtime ago barbados was headed in similar direction and u know wat happened? all the public servants agreed for reduction in their salary to better THEIR COUNTRY why cant lucians do something for their country instead of tryin to squeeze their pm balls by extention their own balls smh!!! and d funny thing is the agreeing to settle for less but if they going to get concession on vehicles and access to gov land at reduced prices etc. if tings so hard y u'll eh ask for free education for ull kids, ask the gov to provide meals at schools u'll just greedy1

  6. public servants in my opinion deserve nothing more than a wage deduction. these are the places tht u will go to on a daily basis and get the poorest service. the people need to understand there are more critical matter to deal with. look lucia can no longer vote in the un general sitting because they are unable to pay their dues and they are in arrears of 96 thousand plus. quite frankly i think kenny is doin the right thing. the man is not takin decisions he is thinking.

  7. The civil servants are free to demonstrate for their right to an increase in salaris. The fact of the matter is that polititions should stop playing politics and show an interest in the country. In 2010 kenny anthony demonstrated with the civil servants even after the then prime minister said that things we hard. now kenny is in the hot seat he wants to deny the workers what they deserve.

  8. Kenny Anthony is using reverse psychology. he is using the communism strategy of divide and rule. Kenny Anthony has no intention of negotiating with union leaders to bring a resolution to this matter. what he will do, on Wednesday, I is trying to put the general public against public servants. public servants deserve an increase. this labour government continues to hire all sorts of consultants, jobs for the boys, paying them huge salaries at our expense. we even have a consultant for security guards. folks, st.lucia is dying slowly right under our eyes under this labour government.

  9. NIHMA if you don't understand what is going on then find out and until then just shut up because you are on a nother planet or may be you must be KENNY ANTHONY the DEVIL him self.
The teachers need an increase. What the hell Kenny is addressing the nation again to tell them....? the stats Kenny use in his last address to compare the public servants in the other islands are 2008-2010 stats the only thing kenny need to do is shave down his over size Gov , cut out all the jobs for the boys garbage.Last October when he address the Chamber he said that Government cant employ every one and that young people need to think of starting there own Biz but how the hell can they do that in a country that all ready has more sellers than buyers and with so much small companies closing every day because the don't have the cash reserve to brace them in this post vat times when people are not spending and banks are not even looking at the small man these days, there is nothing Kenny can do or say to calm this angry nation and he will soon find that out.

  10. Hey, if your union not fighting for you to get a salary increase, mine is so shut the hell up. BTW try to encourage more St. Lucian parents to play a more active role in their kids school work instead of blasting teachers

    • Most of the time people post who that shit is bescaue its normally true. I know of a few individuals who are working the system. For example I know a couple who have children together. They are not married. One works full time . the other on disability. . Collect over $600 in food stamps. Makes ME sick! They DONT need it. I need it. Im PISSED that I cant qualify for any help especially now that I am unemployed. I am lucky if I get to spend 200 a month in food to feed my 4 kids, My husband, and myself. I can't go around asking my friends or family to help me..thats not their problem. I dont qualify for state assistance. I think its BS especially since I have been paying the government since 1995. Since I have been working to contribute. I get 214 after paying tax a week for unemployment here in Arizona. Thats the max. I was making 35K a year. HUGE. My husband only brings home 800 every 2 weeks after insurance and paying back 401K loans to keep our bills paid the first couple months. I am 2 months behind on all my bills get shut off warnings My mother gave me 25 and its in my pocket to get food. The ONLY reason I have my cell is bescaue I need it for finding work .. if I wasnt actively looking I wouldnt have it .Its priorities. So yes, I can see why people judge. A lot of people see people abusing the system like my friends ..

  12. from my point of view teachers don't deserve an increase in their salary due to the fact that our country is in so much duets...an most of these teachers state of mind on a daily bases is that even if students dont learn they still get they full salary...therefore is it turn out that they get the increase, they should be paid based on the students grades!!

    • That comment Nihma is not very fair to teachers. I can tell that you are not one because you really dont know what it is like to face students at our public schools here in St Lucia on a daily basis.

Some parents send their kids to school, without breakfast nor lunch, especially at the primary school level. And we are expected to work miracles by getting a child who has not eaten for the entire morning to leasn a lesson. Most of the teachers I know have to push their hands into their pockets, or dip into their own lunch bags at schools which dont have the feeding programme. That is what I called going over & beyond service. Because they owe that to no ones child! So your statement up there that teachers dont deserve a raise is an insult!!! Shame on you. We must stop these petty politics and talk ISSUES in this country. Such a shame.
