Prime Minister, Hon. Dr. Kenny D. Anthony, has expressed his thanks to the people of Saint Lucia for the manner in which they embraced the celebration of the 34th Independence Anniversary of Saint Lucia.
According to the Prime Minister: “It really was very pleasing to see the outpouring of patriotism especially the number of Saint Lucians who had flags on their vehicles. Our media houses also did a wonderful job to promote the celebration of our independence and to arouse our love and passion for our island.
“I thank in particular, all the units who honoured the anniversary of our independence by participating in the parade on Friday. Many of our visitors thought the parade was excellent. They commended the efficiency and quality of the parade. They thought that the participating units did a phenomenal job. Some were particularly fulsome in their praise for the Pathfinders of the Seventh Day Adventist Church and the Cadets for their outstanding performance. I commend the Commissioner of Police and all the ranks of our Protective Services.
“I really must also single out the Youth Rally. First I thank those students and teachers who attended the rally. Their presence was a wonderful statement of patriotism. Secondly, those who performed were outstanding and inspiring. The young people offered us both joy and hope for our country. It was a wonderful experience to be with them.”
Dr. Anthony added: “As we look forward to the 35th anniversary of our independence next year, we need to build on the success of this year’s celebration particularly by ensuring that our independence belongs to all of us, to our entire nation.”
