PRESS RELEASE – Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Kenny D. Anthony has expressed deep sorrow and anguish at the news of a plane crash in the Republic of China (Taiwan) that resulted in the loss of 49 lives.
In a letter to Ambassador for the Republic of China (Taiwan) to Saint to Lucia, H.E. James Chang, dated July 24, 2014, Prime Minister Anthony wrote,
“I wish to extend on behalf of the Government and people of Saint Lucia our deepest condolences to the Government and people of the Republic of China (Taiwan) on this unfortunate occasion, marked so gravely with sorrow.
We mourn with you and deeply empathize this terrible and painful loss of lives. We know that this is a doleful and stern moment for your government and people. Saint Lucia stands with you as a committed and trusted friend as you seek to come to terms with this national tragedy.
Your Excellency, please convey these sentiments to your Government, and in particular to President Ma. I know personally that tragedies such as these are extremely painful for families, relatives and friends, and for those who are charged with the responsibility of leadership.
Please accept, Your Excellency, the renewed assurances of my highest consideration.”
The Prime Minister has called on Saint Lucians to offer prayers for the families of those who were killed as well as the nine survivors who have to live through the tragic memories of such an ordeal.
The TransAsia Flight GE222 crashed on Penghu Island on July 23 2014. There were 54 passengers 4 crew members on board.
