Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Economic Affairs, National Development and Social Security, Dr. Kenny D. Anthony, will attend the XII Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-Peoples’ Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP) Summit of Heads of State and/or Government in the Republic of Ecuador, on Tuesday, July 30, 2013.
The prime minister hopes to formalize the entry of Saint Lucia into ALBA, consistent with the announcement in the Throne Speech of the governor general, on April 23, 2013.
The governor announced: “In order to survive in a world that hardly knows the value of friendship, be it historical or otherwise, we have no choice but to widen our circles of solidarity and friendship to secure support for our efforts to develop our island. In that context, my government believes that the time has come for Saint Lucia to join its sister states of Antigua and Barbuda, St Vincent and the Grenadines and Dominica and become a full member of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America, ALBA.”
Prime Minister Anthony will be accompanied by Minister for the Public Service, Sustainable Development, Energy, Science and Technology, Senator Dr. James Fletcher.
The prime minister will leave Saint Lucia on Monday, July 29, 2013 on an official aircraft provided by the government of the Republic of Ecuador and will return on same, on Wednesday, July 31, 2013.
Additionally, the cost of attending this summit, which includes lodging, meals and transportation, will be covered by the Republic of Ecuador.
Minister for Infrastructure, Port Services and Transport, Philip J. Pierre, will act as prime minister during the absence of Dr. Anthony.
