0b2f9a9e-3044-49f1-a939-f5b9aaeaf2c5PRESS RELEASE – Prime Minister and Member of Parliament for Vieux Fort South, Hon. Dr. Kenny D. Anthony addressed students of District Six Schools at an Ecumenical Service on Wednesday, February 17, 2016.

The service took place at the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Vieux Fort, in commemoration of Saint Lucia’s 37th Independence Anniversary.

Also in attendance was Member of Parliament for Vieux Fort North, Hon. Moses Jn Baptiste.

The Prime Minister, who wore blue colours akin to the national flag and his alma mater, Vieux Fort Comprehensive Secondary School, delivered an address to the students on what it means to love the country that defines them.

Said Dr. Anthony,

“It was my school that excited my passion for University Education. It was my school that made me who I am today and I give thanks to my school every day. Just as my school made me, so too Saint Lucia has made us, its citizens and inhabitants. And just as I can find a moment to thank my school, I am happy that you are finding a moment to thank Saint Lucia.”
He told the students that,

“We have to give thanks to God for giving us one of the most beautiful countries in the world. It is for us to know and to understand what we have .We are so blessed with our inheritance. That is why I am so pleased and proud with the way you have embraced this country today and given it, thanks and love.”
Dr. Anthony reminded students that our love for our island, “gives us an awesome responsibility; we have to take care of Saint Lucia, not just for ourselves but for future generations.”

Outstanding students, teachers and ancillary staff were honoured during the ecumenical service during a special awards segment.

In his parting words, Dr. Anthony implored each student – as they celebrate Saint Lucia’s 37th Independence Anniversary – to demonstrate love to their parents, teachers and friends, because by doing so, they celebrate their country.
