Prime Minister Dr. Kenny D. Anthony will meet with officials of the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) today, Friday, June 14, 2013 to assess Saint Lucia’s state of preparedness for the 2013 hurricane season.
Given the predictions for this year’s season and the heavy rainfall experienced in recent times, Prime Minister Anthony says he is deeply concerned about Saint Lucia’s ability to respond to any major storm or hurricane.
The Prime minister said: “This Atlantic Hurricane Season has been classified as ‘above normal’ and ‘possibly extremely active’. Given our recent Tomas experience, this prediction signals the need to ensure that all is in place to mitigate the effects of any hurricane that comes our way.
“Today, I will be reviewing our plans to respond to any weather system which has the ability to cause damage to our economy, infrastructure and our citizens. While we conduct this exercise as a government, I urge all citizens to continue to play their part in ensuring that their families and property are safe. This is the time to prepare in earnest.”
