PRESS RELEASE: UWP outlines achievements since taking office

By UWP
Royalton Saint Lucia Resort & Spa - Saint Lucia

Royalton Saint Lucia Resort & Spa – Saint Lucia

The United Workers Party takes the opportunity today to say a heartfelt thank you to all Saint Lucians, who on June 6th 2016 participated in the democratic process and elected our hard working and visionary team of men and women under the banner of “Building a New Saint Lucia”.

The people expressed convincingly their confidence in the United Workers Party and we commend the Government for the work that has been done so far in achieving the promises made in the party’s manifesto.

Since entering office the Government has been faced with a high unemployment rate, poor road maintenance, poor infrastructure and high debt. Despite these challenges the United Workers Party Government has been able to start meeting its goals and fixing some of the current issues. The Party applauds the Prime Minister and the Cabinet of Ministers for their bravery, boldness, wisdom and ability to stay the course.

The steps and changes our Political Leader has taken in mapping the way forward for our country will ensure opportunities for all St. Lucians, from all parts of Saint Lucia. We especially commend the Government for their attention being given to the development of the south.

One year later the United Workers Party is proud of its achievements in Government and its fulfillment of the “Five to Stay Alive” plan which was one of the platforms of our campaign. Being an effective government involves listening and translating the concerns of the people into workable proposals for implementation and we thank the Government for the continuous sharing of information and openness on issues.

Today we give God thanks and praise for our first year in office and we continue to lift up our leaders in prayers. The United Workers Party takes the opportunity to thank all who attended the service on Tuesday afternoon.

  1. REPOST: It is so damn sad that while the country is headed down the drain, people are ignoring the facts because of political blinders. We have to be more objective, if someone is wasting our money or spending it wisely we have to call a spade a spade. That "my party does no wrong" attitude is what led our country down this path. The politicians are doing whatever they want while we fight each other over which party is more corrupt. The politicians are the only ones who gain from this nonsense. Some of these people should be in jail. We proclaim victory when a petty thief is jailed, but look the other way when politicians steal millions, because that's our party. After each election they spend millions on consultants investigating the previous government with no results, these guys are protecting each other. No one has been convicted from UWP or SLP.

    • Imagine all hell is breaking loose in St Lucia, the Chinese are busy trying to enclose our airport, the seaport, Sandy Beach, the Stadium , the Abattoir, our farm land, destroying the ecosystem and UWP is bragging about accomplishments.
What a bunch of idiots. The black elected representatives (yes men/ women) who selected this PM need to have their head checked. Our patrimony means nothing to them.

    • The white Chief - Allen Chastanet selected to be PM by the foolish black elected representatives in the UWP is busy selling St Lucian lands and displacing the people who occupy these lands. There is a huge grey cloud hanging over St Lucia for several months now. Our ancestors are angry. We endured slavery and are about to lose more of our land to Chinese speculators who have no money.
Hope God intervenes soon. Chastanet God does not like liars.

  2. What load of over - exaggerated crap is this? I know you guys want to make yourselves look good, but to blow up the list like this is nothing short of ridiculous! I have seen no proof or evidence of such achievements. Oh, I see, its just theoretical!

    (7)(16)
  3. Well, I can see the SLP hacks have taken over the comments here. The point is, there is NOTHING you all can do now. No need to cry and no need to protest. The fact is the UWP government is in office and they are working. Give it up, there will be no RINGING of the ELECTION BELL anytime soon. You all are in the dry dessert for a very long time. The PM is coming out with more ammunition to make St. Lucia better than it has ever been before. So Stay Calm... UWP is in office for a VERY LONG TIME!!!!

    (21)(15)
    • Funny how UWP hacks are always quick to call any one who disagrees with the UWP administration SLP hacks and get thus treated like one. It seems we don't have a democratic or human right to opinion in this country without being stigmatized and victimized anymore.

Mary Francis where art thou? Don't we the St.lucian public have the right to free speech and expression or is it only criminals who have human rights?

  4. You forgot increase excise tax on fuel by 60%.

BTW I hope you all took into consideration the 90% of staff you dismissed from elderly care when you state that 200 increase, also do not forget the rest of the programmes that were shut down leaving over 1,000 people unemployed which makes 200 very insignificant.

I'd like to end by stating that opening or finishing a project that was NOT negotiated by you, started by you and is at advanced stages is NOT solely your achievement.

    (15)(11)
  5. Trusting God always

LMAO. Are we being real. What have the U.W.P government done in that year. Give me a break I voted U.W.P but I don"t need anyone to tell me that we are heading for disaster with these guys. I can only pray that God allow the days to go by so quickly for that 5 years to be up. The bible says 1 year will be like a thousand years and a thousand years will be like 1 year. Those of us with gods godly spirit can relate to what that means. we need prayer and faith that this 5 years will be no waiting period for us or else we finish in st. Lucia.

What about our school leavers who will be out there this year. What does the government have in place for them.. All job applications have work experience plus good qualifications. Now does guy Joseph ( The most jack of all ministers on both sides) have. No qualifications except what he just gain from Monroe and please tell us how recognizable is that institution.

Guy needs to step away from politics completely. As for being a "Godly man" god forbid. St.Lucian let us be realistic and really open our eyes to what is happening. True politicians come in and want to leave with something big in their pockets and those of their friends but the U.W.P especially the one God knows if i had a say would be out are greedy, greedy, greedy (With the exception of Honourable king), i like this gentleman . I sense his heart is clean. The so call projects of the u.w.p just wait and see who get contracts etc. The slp used the lay persons on the grounds to win elections and in between give them something but the u.w.p uses them and in the five years lets see what the will get. Bradly felix is already running away. Worse than Lorne. Coming in and telling peolpe he has to attend a funreral by 12 when funeral is at 3. Lord put a hand. To the young people of st.Lucia I urge you to not vote for any party unless you see a change in politics. Also to the elderly that they come with stretchers to get on election day to vote please do not go out tere and vote for these guys. Instead stay on your beds and pray, pray, pray and have faith that God will delivers us and st.Lucia

    (25)(26)
    • My mother NOM k°k@👴

Trusting dog you a pissa shit liar u never voted for UWP ....u slp hack dog.

      (4)(9)
    • I expected UWP supporters to put some fire on you by now.

I agree with your opinion on King, for some reason he and Bradly don't really fit in with that lot. King is a very approachable man even when he was PM.

On the other hand I disagree with young people not voting till they see change. Even if they don't vote there will still be a winner and a loser. What needs to happen is that the youth need to demonstrate their disapproval by walking out on crappy campaigns, not attending the launching of sub par politicians and demanding that these guys debate just to name a few.
Politicians in St.lucia are pretty much a reflection of their constituencies, these guys are chosen by popularity not ability with the exception of Micoud South where anyone and anything can win as long as its UWP.

So it can be said that this administration is a reflection of what the majority of St.Lucians are or what they have become.

  6. It is good to periodically report out on achievements.

That said, it is easy to make broad, general statements that can be left to interpretation.

What is missing is another sentence that is more of a specific, results-based reporting for each line item. Specifically:

--- What was the firm, measurable result?
--- What difference did it make to either the economy or St. Lucians?
--- Back it up more with hard numbers, percentages, that is, quantitative information that people can relate to that supports the results achieved and differences made.

And, perhaps structure the issuance and title it appropriately as a, for example, "Quarterly Update". As it comes across now, it could be easily viewed as simply a reactive propaganda instrument (maybe it is?) rather than what should be a regularized, open and transparent reporting out to St. Lucians of their goverment's results and achievements.

Also, disappointingly, the government seems to be shorting St. Lucians on an opportunity for each to further engage and stay informed by not, at the end of the release providing contact information including a name, telephone number, e-mail address, Party or PM or government web site URL, as well as government Facebook coordinates.

The latter is standard on government press releases in other jurisdictions, encourage voters to further engage, and sends a clear message that the government is actively interested in hearing from its constituents.

    (16)(2)
  7. Lol, it seems y'all still in election mode try and keep quiet and do what the people elected you to do please!

    (12)(6)
  8. o you forgot to add dismissing people ....

    (13)(8)
  9. May the lord bless the government and the work are doing on behalf of the people of St Lucia. May the country be prosperous and blood of Jesus over the land. I come against every negative spirit and disunity in the land, I pray that the opposition and the government will work together, I pray that the opposition will give the government a chance to settle down. I believe the government is on right path. May the hands of God be over the land and give the leaders wisdom and favor. Be bless in Jesus name.

    (19)(18)
  10. Yes... Look it Pierre and your blind followers!!!!!

    (17)(19)
  11. I have not seen any progress

    (23)(14)
  12. Disappointed youth

Opening of the Royalton creating over 800 jobs...is this owned by the GOSL?

Reduced VAT to 12.5% from 15%...then replaced with?

Commenced Training of St Lucians in Tourism and Hospitality. Over 150 have already been trained and placed in jobs and another 150 are currently being trained...granted that it provides employment, not everyone wants to do that? What about those who are qualified in other areas but can't find a job?

Coconut Bay expansion by 200 rooms...hotels are not owned by government...allow the private sector to take praise for that

Reduced the tax on vehicle licenses...only to lose more money elsewhere

Ojo Labs Artificial Intelligence Centre in Vieux Fort...this is questionable

Restructured NICE programme and employed 200 more persons for home elderly care programme...200 more jobs? Really? And how many were sent home?

    (33)(7)
    • When it comes to the training of young people for the hospitality industry , guy Joseph's wife is the only one that has benefitted and maybe the only one to benefit .

      (14)(2)
      • Disappointed youth

Are we training our youth to be puppets and "modern day slaves"?
Teach them a trade, help them to become self sufficient and not solely dependent on a service oriented job. Smh.
Time after time, administration after administration, all they do is keep pushing the tourism agenda.
WE ARE MORE THAN JUST SEA, SUN and SAND. We have a lot more to offer than just selling off our lands and just building endless humongous hotels that don't really bring anything into our economy except minimum wage jobs.

        (9)(2)
        • Great comment. I agree with you completely. We need to get away from this ridiculous idea that "Tourism is the answer ". Someone needs to force this into Allen Chastanet's head.

          (1)(0)
  13. The uwp must stop using Royalton as one of their achievement. How can you claim a project that you never negotiated for and you found almost completed when you got office? The continued use of Royalton shows the dishonesty embedded in this government. Instead of falsely claiming Royalton they need to take a page from the SLP on how to negotiate and deliver on a great project instead of the fiasco they want to create in the Vieux Fort.

    (29)(4)
  14. Well done so far continue the good work.

    (8)(21)
  15. I can only pray and hope that the government succeeds.
God bless st. Lucia and its people.

    (13)(2)
  16. You'll need to calm you'll selves down with the achievements bs.

    (12)(5)
  17. I actually waste my time and read that garbage, what happen to the 5 to stay alive in the first $100 days. What has has they implemented that they did not get left on the table from last sets of jokers. Same difference Just an upgrade from a bachelor degree to masters in stupidity.
