PRESS RELEASE: New Ambassador of Mexico presented his credentials to the Governor General of St. Lucia

Today, July 19th 2017, the newly appointed Ambassador of Mexico to St Lucia, Oscar Esparza Vargas, presented his credentials to the Governor General of St Lucia, Her Excellency Dame Pearlette Louisy.

Mexico is part of the Greater Caribbean and has been redoubling its efforts towards the advancement of development, prosperity and integration of the region, especially through its close partnership with the countries of the Eastern Caribbean, amongst them St Lucia.

In that regard, the main task for Ambassador Esparza in this new role will be to continue strengthening the relation between Mexico and Saint Lucia, which in the past years has leaped in intensity and proximity, as was best exemplified by the beginning of the construction of the water system for Dennery North, which is financed partially by a $13.5 million EC grant by Mexico.

Another example is the increasing number of visits by high level officials of Saint Lucia to Mexico, as was the case with the visits by Hon. Sarah Flood Beaubrun, Minister with responsibility for External Affairs.

After meeting with H.E. Dame Pearlette Louisy, Ambassador Esparza met with the Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Equity, Social Justice, Empowerment, Youth Development, Sports, Culture and Local Government, Hon. Lenard Montoute; the Leader of the Opposition, Mr. Philip J. Pierre; and the Permanent Secretary of the Department of External Affairs, Dr. Alison Gajadhar.

Ambassador Esparza will have concurrent accreditation in Antigua and Barbuda, the Commonwealth of Dominica, Grenada, St Kitts & Nevis and St Vincent & the Grenadines.

Before being appointed as Ambassador of Mexico to St Lucia and the Eastern Caribbean States, Ambassador Esparza served as Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassies of Mexico to Chile, the Czech Republic and Indonesia.

He also served in Mexico as Deputy in the General Directorates of European Affairs and of Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He joined the Mexican Foreign Service in 1991.
