The Landings Resort and Spa has undertaken ambitious and far reaching community outreach programmes aimed at poverty reduction, development of the arts and culinary fields, the empowerment of women and youth enrichment.
With key milestones achieved in the first half of the year including a Women’s Day Dinner honouring unsung heroes, Jazz on the Beach showcasing local artistes and culinary training for secondary school students, its dedicated team are ready to serve the community with its five-star appeal for the second half of the year. Its most recent campaigns are part of its youth development and educational activities.
This summer, students from various institutions including the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College, the St. Mary College and CARE will get the opportunity to work throughout the various departments at the resort gaining crucial training to prepare them for the working world.
The students would train under the culinary, front desk, spa and housekeeping departments, acquiring crucial skills needed to excel in the hospitality industry.
When asked about their experience so far, the student trainees noted that they are gaining a better understanding of the hospitality industry and were happy for the opportunity afforded by the Landings.
On hand to add to the already established training programme for student interns and staff in the kitchen, was 10 year veteran and guest Trainee Pastry Chef Julian Broome who added that, ‘the team has been welcoming and eager to learn new techniques showing the abundance of local produce readily available in Saint Lucia’.
Further, in an effort to continue its youth development programmes, the resort has launched the Pack for Purpose campaign to provide supplies for the under privileged students in the community.
The purpose of the supplies drive is not only to provide school materials for students in need, but close the educational gap through its corporate and community partnerships. The resort aims to make this initiative an annual one seeking support from its staff, local and international corporate partners and guests.
The hotel’s General Manager Mr. Wilbert Mason has applauded the efforts of the amazing team at the Landings Resort and Spa stating, ‘We are proud to bring hope to the community at large and champion education and youth development in any way possible by adding value through our outreach programmes which also include mentorship sessions around the island throughput the academic year’.
He also added that the resort will continue to work with key stakeholders to help shape the next generation through education and mentorship whenever possible.
The Pack for Purpose school supplies drive will continue throughout the summers with donations to be giving in time for back to school. To date, students from many secondary schools, hospitality institutions and the Boys Training Centre have all benefitted from the resorts various outreach programmes.
