PRESS RELEASE: IMPACT Justice Business Names Legislation and Legal Profession Legislation Committees meet in Guyana

The Canadian Government funded Improved Access to Justice in the Caribbean (IMPACT Justice) Project will host meetings for its Business Names Legislation and Legal Profession Legislation Committees on July 26th, 27th and 28th, 2017 at the Pegasus Hotel Guyana.

These meetings will be officially opened with a formal opening reception on July 26th, 2017 at 5:30 pm in the Savannah Room of the Pegasus Hotel Guyana. At the opening, remarks will be delivered by the Honourable Basil Williams, MP., Attorney General of Guyana and Ms. Jan Sheltinga, Counsellor, Development Cooperation, High Commission of Canada will deliver remarks on behalf of the His Excellency Pierre Giroux, High Commissioner of Canada to Guyana and Suriname.

Professor Velma Newton, Regional Project Director of the IMPACT Justice Project will chair the opening ceremony and will also give a report on the progress of the IMPACT Justice Project.

Members of both Committees, as well as representatives from the CARICOM Secretariat, the University of Guyana, the Guyana Bar Association and others have been invited to attend the opening.

When both committees meet, they will seek to finalize draft model Business Names Legislation and draft model Legal Profession Legislation for adoption by the CARICOM Legal Affairs Committee as CARICOM Model Bills.
