PRESS RELEASE: Choiseul Youth and Sports Council elects new Executive

choiseulOn Saturday May 30th 2017, the youth of Choiseul met at a General Meeting to elect a new Executive to the Choiseul Youth and Sports Council.

The Meeting was held at the Choiseul Secondary School from 5:10 pm.

The opening remarks were given by outgoing Public Relations Officer Nyus Alfred, who encouraged the young people present to continue volunteering within the community. Outgoing President Jeny Gaillard presented the executive report on the activities of the Council during the past two years.

While there were challenges, Ms Gaillard highlighted some positives for the

Council over the period, notably a Youth Radio Show and Annual Earth Day Activity ‘Soleil Kouche’.

The newly elected Executive of the Saint Lucia National Youth Council was present to provide support to the CYSC. NYC President Jeshurun Andrew reaffirmed his Council’s commitment to providing support to the youth of Choiseul.

The election went on via procedure of nomination; with all but the Assistant Secretary position receiving nominees. The new Executive of the Choiseul Youth and Sports Council is as follows:

  • President- Darrion Louis
  • Vice President- Jorden Mitchel
  • Secretary- Kimberly Findley
  • Treasurer- Leenel Lafeuillee
  • Assistant Treasurer- Naomi Jean
  • Public Relations Officer- Gregory Jean

The post of Assistant Secretary will be filled via appointment by the Executive.

The National Youth Council Executive, Youth and Sports Officer Val St Helen, and Social Justice Officer Darnelly Estava all offered their support and encouragement to the newly elected executive.

President Darrion Louis addressed the meeting after, giving an insight into some of the priority programs for his new administration, which included an after school program and the sourcing of finance to support sporting initiatives within the community.

The National Youth Council congratulates the new Executive of the Choiseul Youth and Sports Council, and we pledge our support to the youth of Choiseul, as we continue to work and advocate on their behalf.
