Quinton Garrathy (inset) was struck by this black Hyundai SUV on August 3, 2014 on the Gros Islet Highway, near the Rodney Bay Marina. The arrows in the photo point to the damage caused by the deadly impact.

A post mortem examination conducted on the body of Virgin Atlantic cabin crew member Quinton Garrathy on Monday, August 11 revealed that he died from cerebral (brain) hemorrhage secondary to blunt force trauma.

This cause of death occurs mainly as a result of transportation fatalities, including those involving motor vehicle collisions, pedestrians being struck by vehicles, airplane crashes, and boating incidents.

The post mortem was conducted by a pathologist attached to Victoria Hospital and not Dr. Stephen King who is the father of the driver – 18-year-old Sebastien King of Gros Islet – involved in the fatal accident.

Garrathy, 38, from Southampton, United Kingdom was hit by Sebastien’s black Hyundai SUV, registration number PG657, close to 1:38 a.m. on Sunday, August 3 just after disembarking a mini-bus, opposite the food vans, at the Rodney Bay Marina area, eyewitnesses said.

Police sources say Sebastien’s insurance and driver’s license were valid.

The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) had to await a response from the British High Commission for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean on whether a post mortem examination could have been conducted here.

The body of the deceased will now be handed over to the family for burial.

It is unclear if police will charge the driver responsible for Garrathy’s death.

  1. I have been visiting St Lucia for 15 years and the last 5 years the drivers have been speeding around Rodney bay too fast . I believe the driver was driving too fast with due care and attention . Justice needs to be done this poor man has left a wife and baby .

  2. He did not 'run into the vehicle' he was not drunk that he would not take the usual care anyone does crossing a road to suggest the pedestrian is at fault is a joke you people are sick and deluded. Open your eyes the driver is at fault.

  3. What difference does it make if he was drunk or not? So he'd had a few beers, does that make it ok for a four month old to be without her daddy? Wind your neck in your mug.

  6. Yal are some dumb asses... pedestrians do have right of way... in saying that if the man was negligent in crossing its not anyone's fault but his... yet the driver should have been alot more cautious cuz we all know at these hours the roads are very dangerous... if he didn't have any kind of speed... none wat so ever and was doing say 40-50... you think the deceased would have gotten severe cerebral trauma... lucians stop being ignorant! Cuz we know it does boil down to a money thing...

  7. You guys are all being reduclous honestly in my opinion a well rounded family which isn't plagued by the irrational ignorance of typical lucians would raise their son in a manor which would be conducive too him being more caring and vigilant in situations like that someone's financial status plays a nominal roll in what happened here cuz most well off families understand and know what's at stake every time they allow a new driver to be on the road lucians need to stop hating and start moving forward whom ever fault it might truly be the fact that the boy is from a well of family is irrelevant if there was enough evidence to show that it was the pedestrian who crossed haphazardly into the road

  10. the question is, did the Police give the driver a Breathalyser test ? to determine whether the driver should be arrested.

      • yes I totally agree that test should be carried out on the pedestrian to ascertain if he had any alcohol in his body, and the level of alcohol??

  11. ALOT of you guys comment by using something else apart from your brain! A lot of you guys comment and judging someone that you dont really know and that is sad... I am the drivers friend and i know how he is, is sad to hear what happen not just to him but to the guy that lost his life but really and truly you can not and i repeat can not blame someone without 1- being there or 2- really know what happen.
alot of you guys want to speak about rich children and thats not how it is, alot of you sound like people that are haters for hwo fortunate the family really is, like someone said it seem all of should be poor to be living in a better world... but thats not how it should be... what if he was drunk, what if he wasnt speeding like all of you want to state!?!?! what if?! yes it was an accident and you can not say it was wreck less when yu really wasnt there to see what happen.
what if the pedestrian just cross the road people can not be driving like a turtle either because we have to be looking for all pedestrian to cross... no its not like that he like any one else once took bus, he didnt jsut get a car or got driven everywhere like a rich kid, no! he took bus like any other individual and like a reasonable individual should know when and when not to cross the road! who here ever got down a bus and just cross the road without looking?!?! no one beause we know better and im not justifying but you can not look things like you know what happen! you cant you werent there, all im saying put your self in the shoes of everyone not just one side! everyone in this situation is hurt not just the the family of the person that lost his life but both sides... have a good night to the people that is hating and to the people that is actually looking at things like a human being!
