Just days after losing in the Commercial Basketball League quarterfinals, RSLPF got its first SCBL win after seven tries, thanks to balanced scoring and tight defense.
Hustlerz appeared set to consign the Police to their seventh consecutive loss after the first half, when the Micoud team was up 29-17. Cannan St Catherine had scored 13 points in the second quarter alone, most of them on fast-breaks. But RSLPF point guard Erwin Tertullien took the game in hand, catalyzing a 14-2 scoring run in the third quarter to tie it at 31.
Tertullien’s third quarter included a 3-point field goal, three foul shots – all converted – following a subsequent 3-point attempt, then lighting it up again from behind the arc with another trey. Police outscored the Hustlerz 17-12 in the fourth quarter to hold on for their first win. RSLPF still holds the league’s 7th spot, now 1-6 with 5 games to play.
Meanwhile, an undermanned No Limit Ballerz crew from Belle Vue gave third seededd BBC quite a fight on Tuesday in Vieux Fort. BBC dominated the first half, outscoring No Limit 35-20. BBC top scorer Kurt Raphael had 8 of his 10 points in the 2nd quarter.
No Limit’s Kevin Flood, though, scored 18 of his 20 points on the night in the second half, 10 in the third and 8 in the fourth quarter. Teammate Sylvan Louisien added on 8 points in a desperate, all-out come back by the No Limit Ballerz. They scored 11 unanswered points in a 13-2 fourth quarter run to put themselves within striking distance of a win 50-53.
But the more experienced BBC turned on their pressure defense, disrupting No Limit Ballerz’s scoring momentum and going on a 10-5 run in the last 3 minutes, squashing the hopes of the crew from Belle Vue. BBC (6 wins, 3 losses) retain the league’s third position. No Limit are on a 2-0 losing streak and are sixth, just behind Hustlerz.
The South Coast Basketball League returns to Micoud on Thursday, October 2nd when the RSLPF hope to continue their winning ways against league #4 Vintage Basketball.
