Police accident survivor in serious condition, in need of blood

One of two police officers involved in a traffic accident on the Dennery Bypass on July 16, is now in a serious condition at the St. Jude Hospital and in need of blood.

According to information posted on the Royal St. Lucia Police Force’s Facebook page Alva Antoine is to undergo emergency surgery tomorrow Friday July 18, 2014.

An appeal has therefore been launched for members of the public to donate blood to aid in his recovery. The blood type needed is A Positive.

“We are asking persons who would like to assist, to kindly donate some blood to the said hospital on his behalf,” the police said.

Antoine and fellow police officer Caleb Jallim, who were attached to the Dennery Police Station, were heading home shortly after leaving duty when their white Toyota Yaris (registration #PB4945) collided with a light brown convertible BWM (registration #PG3711), driven by Alloysius Blasse of River Doree, Choiseul.

The accident occurred at about 8:20 a.m.

  1. I'm live in the US but I'm born and raised St Lucian and you guys are so heartless, cold and insensitive towards the current situation. I'm O positive which makes me a universal donor very few in the world but if I was home I wouldn't hesitate to give a pint of blood. So stop all your ignorance people and if you have nothing good to say then shut the hell up. Sensitive

  2. I don't see the big deal with asking for blood to donate. We all are human beings and we might need that same favor someday and who know he or his family can help.We hit them officers so bad and tomorrow we will need them. They are not all the same.I am A- and anemic I can not give but if I could I would do it in a heart beat.Yes he was one of the officers who came to my house 4am but that gives me no right to tongue lash him.We all want a second chance why not give it to someone else.He will pull through with or without the help of the public because God is in control. For those who are willing these blood type will help also he can receive blood from o+,o- or A-.

    • You can donate blood at Victoria Hospital. I believe it is open from 8-4:30/5pm. The place where you donate is located downstairs the Ezra Long Laboratory. You can always ask anybody from the lab to direct you

  4. Are we so heartless in this country called Saint Lucia? I recalled that we at one time was a caring and loving people but from what I am reading each day on these blogs leaves me to wonder if this is the same Saint Lucia that I love so much. We are so bitter and hateful towards each other, my question is why?
When I look around what I see is not criminals or police but rather I see my brothers and sisters. I do not see SLP or UWP but rather I see Saint Lucians. We are destroying each other and by extension this island of ours.
I wish for once in our lives that we can take the time to see past our own selfish ways and look to the other person and wish them well. As it stands that person can be our brother, sister, uncle aunty, mother, father or whatever. At the end we are all one people, whether police officer or criminal.
No matter how we look at it we all need each other, the police are your neighbour, brother, father etc. Who do we ran too when we are taken advantage of? Yes the police, as I said at the end of the day they are people too.

  5. WE do need another trough to park over the north-south mountains for 48 hrs -to trigger basic community love and responsibility within our "crabs in a bucket" mindset. Memo: Public attitude towards your public FIRST RESPONDERS influences the generosity of those who are off island and are thinking of sending assistance in the wake of a natural national crisis

  6. Policemen and women don't cope with society.92 % of them take advantage of society. They bull, they kill, they rape, deal drugs, they break all the rules in the book and nothing is being done about it. BUT let's show them u are different and donate the blood.TO GOD BE THE GLORY.

  7. Some of the comments are so heartless. The individual's family is now going through trauma having to deal with his current situation and the guy is being discussed like he his some type of robot as someone said before. St. Lucians have a heart please show some emotion. Remember also the outside world is watching and reading those comments.

  9. SAD, get your facts right. Police officers are donating blood. But, the majority of the donations are O+. The hospital is specifically asking for A+ blood.... If I were able I woild donate. Aside from being a police officer. Alva Antoine is a human being.

  10. Totally agree,There are more than enough police officers with his blood type to donate blood to a falling officer. If I was in Lucia I would volunteer.

  11. Look on the positive side for once: A+ blood group is not very common and so an appeal to the public may just be an absolute need to save a life.

  12. The don't need all that blood for the officer they want the rest for the hospital that what they do cause when u donate blood that's not what they they giving to who ever needs blood and when the public donate they keep it that's what they do

  13. Dats a rear type of blood, so is not for the officer alone dey asking the blood for. If wats in stock is used it can be replaced. So if u have dat type go and give dat will make more sense.
