Prime Minister Dr. Kenny Anthony will on Tuesday address concerns over reports that the United States (US) has prohibited local police officers from participating in training programmes arranged or financed by the US.

His August 20 address will be made at 8 p.m., according to a press release from the press secretary.

Last week, the prime minister had indicated that the situation involved “serious and complex” matters.

“The government of Saint Lucia is aware of the concerns and anxieties expressed by the public over the decision by the United States to disallow officers of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force from participating in several training programmes arranged or financed by the United States. The government also appreciates that these concerns and anxieties extend to the ranks of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force,” a government release said last week.

“These reactions are understandable especially as delicate matters of security are involved. It is also undeniable that it is in our vital interest to maintain close ties of co-operation with the United States in security matters,” it further stated.

  2. Why are people complaining on this so much? One needs to get the facts about the situation or it could be a situation where one must twist things around so it could be a National Address on lies....so please be patient St. Lucians, Rome wasn't built in one day...

  3. WHAT WE NEED IS A PRESS CONFERENCE NOT AN ADDRESS TO THE NATION. THIS IS SERIOUS AND THE PM NEEDS TO BE QUESTIONED BY THE MEDIA REPRESENTING THE CONCERNS OF THE WIDER POPULATION. ENOUGH OF KENNY TALKING TO US> THE MAN NEEDS TO BE CROSS-EXAMINED!

  5. If the government understands that it is a serious and complex matter; involving National Security! Then it should not be addressing the Nation all the way on August 20 when the issue has been in the Public domain since last week!

A Press Conference should have been held this week!!! Unacceptable. Is from one disappointment to another with this Administration. People who voted for you have to hang our head in shame in the streets of St. Lucia. We just cannot face the public. Just too much to defend.

They sit their asses and expect things to come their way. Why not try to be flexible? Why try not to get your lazy arses out of ur mothers houses n do something.

  9. Continue to stay quiet Kenny!! Oh, and remove VAT on medication two month prior to general elections. And remind St.Lucians how concern you are about the plight of the youth. Kind reminder, the main road in Vieux fort from the Hewanorra Int'l Airport down to Vieux Fort town to the St.Judes/Laborie Highway is so crappy, yet you build a concret 4 lane road from Bruceville(Shanty Town) to the main VF/Castries Highway. You have our back Mr. PM.
