Prime Minister Dr. Kenny Anthony has offered words of condolence on behalf of the people of St. Lucia on the passing of Alimenta Bishop, mother of the late Maurice Bishop of Grenada.
According to a press release, Dr. Anthony conveyed his regards to the Bishop family through a telephone call on August 26, 2013.
“Despite the pain and anguish she suffered over the years, she continued to be a model citizen and constantly rallied for justice and fairness. It is regrettable, that after so many years of agitation she was unable to receive disclosure about the burial site of her son, Maurice Bishop, who was brutally killed in 1983. She was a strong, admirable Caribbean mother,“ Dr. Anthony said.
The prime minister further spoke of what he said was St. Lucia’s admiration for the “strength, courage and tenacity of the 97-year-old.”
Bishop had survived the untimely death of her husband, Rupert Bishop and her son Maurice Bishop, Grenada’s second prime minister.
